Amazing little spot!! So cozy, feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere but so convenient for visiting the volcano. Sounds of nature, camping with frills, and the perfect spot to come back to after an adventure. And obsessed with Yip, the host dog!!

2 nights at Captain Cooks Lava Tube Camp/cabins

The land is amazing where you can walk through a lava tunnel and walk to points where you can have a view of the ocean. Josh showed us all around and made sure we had what we needed for our stay. Josh was knowledgeable and provided us with information about the land. The facilities were very clean with flushing toilets and awesome instant hot water showers. We felt very safe! An adventure worth taking, to camp in Hawaii! Where you can see the stars so bright!

Weekend Trip to Captain Cooks Lava Tube Camp/cabins

Josh has a fantastic setup! We had an amazing time. The location is incredibly peaceful. Hot water, flushing toilets, and beautiful Hawaiian plants flowering all over! Josh was so welcoming and friendly. He made sure we were comfortable and gave us a tour of the property, including the stunning lava tube. We can’t wait to return for another camp trip sometime soon. Josh’s campsite was fantastic! The showers and toilets were exceptionally clean—a huge plus for any campsite. With plenty of water available, we could enjoy long, refreshing showers after a full day of travel. The campsite itself is stunning, set atop lava stone, offering a unique and picturesque setting. We pitched our tent on a soft, level surface and were able to park our car right next to it, which was incredibly convenient. Josh was an outstanding host—kind, accommodating, and even generous enough to upgrade our campsite. I highly recommend staying here, as it provides the perfect base for exploring the south side of the Big Island and is just a short drive from the national park.

It is a nice secluded orchard, with a constant concert of the critters around. I loved the cinnamon tree :) Not far from Kealakekua Bay, nice view of the ocean.

Josh was attentive, friendly and communicative ensuring our check-in was smooth and that we could use the facilities. The bathrooms were spotless and the warm shower was a great plus. I’m not super into caves, but the lava tube was majestic. We also enjoyed the fresh black coffee and especially the two puppies who welcomed us as well.

Carrie’s land is fantastic! We loved the cabin, privacy and sunset views. I highly recommend staying here. Driving up from the beach to higher elevation was a lovely transition from the hot, drier beach experience and we liked the proximity to Kona.

Weekend Trip to Jacaranda Ridge

Thanks Eddie for your warm welcome and easy stay. The directions were solid. The shower, toilet, flat spot to camp were simple and appreciated as we were biking around the island. What a view! Beautiful warm winds, endless ocean and sky. Eddie made us a coffee in the morning and shared lovely conversations while packing up our bikes. He even offered to give us a ride back up to the highway. The 2 dogs Coco and Ocho are super cuties. Much Mahalo Eddie!

Incredible host and sight! Fav spot out of 5 places we stayed. Eddie was communicative and full of aloha. His property is something special and plan to spend your sunset there. Kelly’s property was safe, peaceful and beautiful. The outdoor shower and covered area for intermittent weather were lovely. Proximity to Whittington beach and the farmers market are also great assets.

Carrie was such an amazing host! With clear instructions to her beautiful location, we were able to find it with no issues. It was such a wonderful experience with my little Ohana, we enjoyed our dinner with the stars & nice fire pit keeping us warm. My kids said this was the best shower ever after a long day! (Esp with hot water) hehe The Cabin was a bonus, we are grateful to find this gem, you will definitely enjoy your peace in nature if that’s what you’re seeking! We had a great night at Yip camp. Thomas was very generous and shared firewood and lighter fluid with us so we could make a fire in his fire pit. The lot is very peacefully tucked away into the forest. Yip was lively and full of mischief!

Beautiful place and wonderful people. The place is very nice with a great view of the starry sky—we were even lucky enough to see an eclipse! The kitchen is well-equipped and has everything needed for cooking. We slept in the car and were able to rest well. The next day, they gave us great suggestions on what to do on the island and recommended good beach spots. They even lent us a snorkeling mask! I highly recommend this place for an overnight stay and as a starting point since the locals have the best information on what to do on the island. Thank you for everything!

Yip camp cottage was amazing. Night gazing was an incredible experience among the sounds of the forest. Also great location if you are looking to go to the volcanos! The cottage was spacious and clean. Thomas was super accommodating and friendly! Great communication!

Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. The property is located on the Kilauea Volcano at about 2700 feet in elevation and in sight of the majestic Mauna Loa volcano rising at the peak at 13,680 feet. Both volcanos have been active recently. There are several trails at the National Park nearby; trails and several species of birds live on the property including Japanese Pheasants. On clear nights the skies provide excellent ambient viewing of the moon, planets and constellations. The campsites and cottage are located in the woods near a shower and flushing toilet and the property is off grid with the goal to establish an example of sustainable lifestyles and ecosystems. Camping equipment is available upon request and the cottage is furnished with a basic kitchen. The grounds also include a screen room with a grill, tables, chairs and a fire pit. Local fruits and vegetables are grown on the property and the greenhouse provides food. Solitude is available for those who seek silence and immersion in nature and a number of state and county beaches are within a forty minute drive. The focus is providing a quiet environment and an opportunity for solitude away from the distractions of urban lifestyles. Beaches are about forty five minutes and the drive to Hilo is about 25 miles.

Captain Cooks Lava Tube Camp/cabins

Tent Sites will start at $45 a night and go up with Gazebo's $69 a night with additional tents $10 a night. Lookout Tower can be reserved first come first served. Touring the Lava Tube is free with a paid Camp reservation. All Items brought in, must be taken back out. The showers and toilets are brand new comfortable and very clean and maintained multiple times a day. The property is very well laid out for campers to have their own privacy and access to the facilities and lava tube. The star gazing here is phenomenal and the lava tube is one of the biggest on the island at 450' long with a 50' ceiling and about 50' wide.. going in on a nice staircase to a groomed path is a breeze. Leaving is just as spectacular. I call it entering a new world by maina Loas creation. The paths are lit up by hundreds of solar lights and all building have automatic lights to assist your navigation of the property.

As all the land here is born of lava, many moons ago this land began to host plants and critters. Long after, it was sculpted and a number of families and farmers have contributed to what we have today. An abundance of fruit and vegetables within sight of the ocean. Peaceful breezes and warming sun make for unparalleled tranquility. Today the land still gives back to its visitors. Come recharge. As this is agricultural lands, there are many critters. Dogs, chickens, pheasants, peacock, mongoose, and many birds. Tge invasive coqui frog is annoying to some and calming to others. The micro climate here swings from warm and dry to wet quickly. Best to always prepare for rain. There is snorkeling, beaches, local food, Cafe, BBQ, poke, fish-n-chips, grocery, Sunday farmers market and hiking nearby. It is peaceful here, but also an active farming community. As an organic farm, we put alot of effort into soil building and as such, there are soft places that will be damaged by the weight of a vehicle. Staying on the driveway is best. We will guide you to where you need to go. Our road is paved, but bumpy. Any vehicle will make it without damage if driven slowly. 1 to 4mph tops. *Be sure to avoid the camper rental companies that restrict certain roads. Aloha and have a great day.

Aloha and welcome to Silver Oak Sunsets, a 5 acre agriculture farm and family plot situated in the Kona Coffee Belt on the western slopes of Hualalai Mountain in Kona, Hawai'i. With great stargazing opportunities, the camping area where is located on the top two acres of the property at 2000ft elevation above sea level. This area is an open grassy (mowed) area surrounded with avocado, kukui nut and silver oak trees. This area boasts some of the best ocean, coastline, and sunset views in Kona! The bottom 3 acres are where my family and I reside. Conveniently located just 10 minutes from Kona International Airport, 15 minutes to the beach, 5 minutes to the nearest golf course, gas station, and grocery store, Silver Oak Sunsets campsite is secluded yet close to everything Kona. Our seasonal changes are mild compared to the continental US. Summer months (May-September) are warmer and with more rain and the winters (Nov-April) are cooler and drier with temperatures dipping to the low 50's. Plans to build a mini cabin are in the works. In the meantime, the ideal experience would be if you were camping in a van or 4x4 vehicle with tent (Tepui-type) set up. But don't fret, you can park your car, truck or minivan at the designated parking area and pitch your tent nearby on the ground. You and your family will have this campsite all to yourselves as Silver Oak Sunsets has just one campsite. Our family plot is located on the top acre in an area known fondly as Grandma's Garden. Provided for your camping experience are the following amenities: *Portable toilet and toilet paper (this full size portable toilet is pumped every 1-2 weeks and is thoroughly wiped down and cleaned before and after each visit) *Outdoor hot shower using Camplux propane water heater *Cold water sink *Water spigot *Large picnic table *Propane fire pit Sights and sounds you will likely encounter: *Coqui frogs (mostly at night, especially during rainy season) *Roosters and hens (will let you know that the sun is rising) *Dog's barking (heard in the distance) *Vehicle traffic (heard in the distance) *A beautiful sunset Other sight's and sounds you may encounter: *Turkey's and Kalij Pheasant's walking about and napping *Hawk's flying overhead *Wild boar (grazing at night) Note that boars do not typical attack, especially in unprovoked. *Mongoose (Hawai'i's version of a squirrel) They are not friendly but mind themselves. *My family and I landscaping and farming. We have a camping stove available for you to cook, BBQ grill or wood for make a fire and blankets just make sure to reserve or ask for this items ahead of time. Enjoy a stargazing Learning about farming in Hawaii Do a stress free hike in our 50 acres farm it gets chilly at night but nothing below 60 which is a perfect weather for us and the vegetables. Please check our adds on like fresh farm eggs, propane for your cooking, tours and more. Be aware this is a farm, so dogs, chickens and natures sounds should be expected. Make sure to let us know when you at Pahala or your ETA since Wood valley is a no phone or EMF signal area and we rely on wifi for communication.
