Aloha and welcome to Silver Oak Sunsets, a 5 acre agriculture farm and family plot situated in the Kona Coffee Belt on the western slopes of Hualalai Mountain in Kona, Hawai'i. With great stargazing opportunities, the camping area where is located on the top two acres of the property at 2000ft elevation above sea level. This area is an open grassy (mowed) area surrounded with avocado, kukui nut and silver oak trees. This area boasts some of the best ocean, coastline, and sunset views in Kona! The bottom 3 acres are where my family and I reside. Conveniently located just 10 minutes from Kona International Airport, 15 minutes to the beach, 5 minutes to the nearest golf course, gas station, and grocery store, Silver Oak Sunsets campsite is secluded yet close to everything Kona. Our seasonal changes are mild compared to the continental US. Summer months (May-September) are warmer and with more rain and the winters (Nov-April) are cooler and drier with temperatures dipping to the low 50's. Plans to build a mini cabin are in the works. In the meantime, the ideal experience would be if you were camping in a van or 4x4 vehicle with tent (Tepui-type) set up. But don't fret, you can park your car, truck or minivan at the designated parking area and pitch your tent nearby on the ground. You and your family will have this campsite all to yourselves as Silver Oak Sunsets has just one campsite. Our family plot is located on the top acre in an area known fondly as Grandma's Garden. Provided for your camping experience are the following amenities: *Portable toilet and toilet paper (this full size portable toilet is pumped every 1-2 weeks and is thoroughly wiped down and cleaned before and after each visit) *Outdoor hot shower using Camplux propane water heater *Cold water sink *Water spigot *Large picnic table *Propane fire pit Sights and sounds you will likely encounter: *Coqui frogs (mostly at night, especially during rainy season) *Roosters and hens (will let you know that the sun is rising) *Dog's barking (heard in the distance) *Vehicle traffic (heard in the distance) *A beautiful sunset Other sight's and sounds you may encounter: *Turkey's and Kalij Pheasant's walking about and napping *Hawk's flying overhead *Wild boar (grazing at night) Note that boars do not typical attack, especially in unprovoked. *Mongoose (Hawai'i's version of a squirrel) They are not friendly but mind themselves. *My family and I landscaping and farming. No open fire burning at this time however, you ma provide your own portable propane style grill to cook on. Please be respectful of loud noise after 9pm. Mahalo! We now have a tiny cabin for you! This cute cabin, built in fall 2024 is an 8' x12' raised A-frame cabin with full size bed and bedding. Screened in windows and mosquito net magnetic door closure allows the breeze and views to come in. The campsite, if you choose to pop a tent or sleep in your rig is located below the rock wall on a mostly flat surface. The tiny cabin is situated approximately 50 feet from the flat parking area which includes the large picnic table and propane fireplace. If pitching a tent, guests can set up here or nearby (but not under) the large avocado tree. Both areas have great coastline and sunset views. The outdoor shower, portable toilet, and sink are located on the backside of the wooden tool shed, approximately 20 yards from your camping setup. However you choose to set up, this camp is all yours for you and your family as there is only one booking available at any given time! During your stay, feel free to roam around the top 2 acres of the property. The north side is fenced off to the neighboring property and the east (mauka/mountain) side ends at the old hawaiian built rock wall. The south side ends at the overgrown 4x4 road. Please do not venture above the top of the property as natural flora/fauna and wild animals such as the 'io (hawaiian hawk), endemic to Hawai'i, are present. No open fire at this time unless cooking meals in a small barbeque grill or portable propane style cooktop, off the ground. Please also be respectful of loud noise after 9pm. Mahalo for choosing to stay at 'io cabin and camp!

The host was very nice! If it's raining you definitely need a 4x4 to go up. The shower was pretty good and the view was beautiful, I totally recommend!

Easy Access to the Heart of Kona
'lo Camp Coastline & Sunset Views was the 6th of seven Hipcamp locations we stayed at during our 17-day excursion to the Big Island with our son and daughter (11 & 10) and among the best in terms of proximity to beaches and other attractions along the Kona coast. Carrie was warm and friendly and the site was perfect for our 4WD with pop up tent and ground tent. We appreciated the picnic table, cooler, and garbage can which made cooking and clean up easy. The outdoor shower and toilet were very clean, comfortable, and well apportioned.

Perfect Spot with Breathtaking View
We had a fantastic stay! The sunset views were absolutely stunning—truly one of the highlights of our trip. The shower was excellent and refreshing, and it was great to have a picnic table and fire pit for meals and evening relaxation. We were traveling in a Class B RV, and while the driveway is a bit steep, it was manageable. However, I could see how it might be a bit of a challenge for larger 2WD vehicles on wet grass. That said, once you're settled in, the site is well worth the effort. Overall, a great spot with wonderful amenities. Carrie is a great host, super responsive and greeted us on arrival which was a nice touch. We would definitely recommend it to others!

Awesome campsite close to Kona and area beaches. Lovely site with awesome views, a warm beautiful outdoor shower and bathroom. Hosts are super nice and the property is peaceful. The outdoor propane fire-pit is downright awesome as you look out over the ocean. We stayed here the first night of our Campervan trip and the last as its location makes it perfect for Kona-oriented exploring and quick access to the airport. Love this place.
