Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

This is our home but we love to share our life in the outback. We believe it will give you a better appreciation of life's simpler side. That being said, and to maintain the balance here at home, we'd appreciate if you keep your dogs in your car until you get to your site.
Our offerings include fresh air and sunshine, amazing night sky, endless views, and plenty of space and privacy to enjoy your moments in nature. You'll find our amenities and activities puposefully sparse here. Upon booking, there are about 5 miles of dirt road on the property that you are welcome to explore on foot or by bicycle.
Rustic is the theme here. There is no shower, no wifi, and no electricity available, but you will enjoy your own private spigot and the cellular service is acceptable.
For any sites located south of Ballinger Wash, your vehicle length is limited to 22' and no more than 4' overhang from the rear axle, so you don't get stuck in the crossing and block access for others. Towing services are 1-3 hours away.
Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets and amazing stargazing. These UPPER SITES are NOT OHV friendly, but any of our canyon bottom sites are a great base for your riding adventures up in Ballinger Canyon OHV. We'll be happy to recommend a site for you. **Forest Service law enforcement is actively ticketing unplated OHV on Ballinger Canyon Road. Be sure to know and abide by the laws.**
Our friendly cancellation policies vary between 24 hours for simple campsites and 72 hours for our Glamp sites and Group sites. Be sure to check the Google for distance to Cuyama Valley, and your dates for availability and site descriptions. A great place to stay just outside of the park. Be near the park, but feel that complete privacy. These sites are very spaced out from each other and are large. No need to cram together! Explore the mines and hang out on our Groveland, California ranch!
We have 824 acres on a beautiful cattle ranch with two small ponds. On our property, you'll find frogs, turtles, oak trees, pine trees and stunning views of Yosemite.
We have several campsites to choose from including RV camping, tent camping, and a glamping tent. Pets are welcome. Campfires are permitted as long as there is no fire ban. Potable water and toilet are available onsite.
There's a golf course less than a mile away. We are also very close to town. In just a few minutes, you can drive to our local grocery store and pizza parlour.
We are a 10-minute drive to Pine Mountain Lake. Beautiful Pine Mountain Lake offers golfing, dining, horseback riding, water sports and an airport.
When you come to the ranch it feels like you are hundreds of miles away from civilization, but still close to everything you need. It is incredibly peaceful!
This is a great place for someone who wants to escape city life and enjoy the tranquillity of nature.
Much of the ranch is open wilderness for you to explore, and it's not uncommon to see deer, frogs, turtles, quail, turkeys, or other countless species of birds.
Diamond Gulch Camp is the perfect place to relax if you’re a photographer, artist, family or a group of friends looking for a place to camp near Yosemite.
A small portion of the property was used as a gold mine years ago, and you may find remnants of old home sites if you go exploring. We're not far from Wards Ferry Road, Groveland, Lake Don Pedro and other interesting places.

Located within 45 minutes of the wine country and 2 miles from the coast, our property is 400 acres of rolling hills and redwood groves, with a creek running along its base. With miles of trails meandering through quiet woods and meadows, you will be able to revel in the tranquility of a private preserve, without sacrificing easy access to some of Sonoma County's most famous attractions. A hundred years ago, this land was used to graze sheep. Remnants of the old fence lines can still be seen in places, along with old cement troughs. Since then, the land has been left to its own devices, passing through many hands, most famously owned by two brothers in the 1980's who built a truly amazing tree house in the forest which has been featured in several magazine articles. It was revamped and updated in 2016 by a master craftsman, using fallen redwood logs found on the property and is now a unique structural work of art, available for overnight stays. We produce 100% grass fed, dry-aged beef on our certified organic pastures and have a store on site if you would like to purchase delicious steaks, ribs, ground beef for hamburgers or some roasts to take home. Our cattle graze on the native grasses, never grain, and drink only water produced from our own springs. We also raise Kiko meat goats and produce pastured, certified organic duck eggs on a commercial basis. Whether it's surfing at sandy beaches, award-winning clam chowder, a wine tour, horseback riding or a hot air balloon ride you're after, you won't have far to drive if you make our ranch your base camp. You may see a family of deer appear suddenly, or a few Scottish Highland cows which we allow to roam freely over the property. There are over twenty species of wild birds that grace this protected spot, so bring your binoculars! A portion of your fee goes towards protecting native flora and fauna as part of our private wildlife preservation program. A limited number of private, widely spaced camp spots are available for visitors. The Eagles' Nest Treehouse (mentioned above) is very isolated and you may or may not even be aware that there are other people within miles of you. For those who value nature, seclusion, quiet and the artistry of old growth redwood, this is the place for you.

We have 824 acres on a beautiful cattle ranch with two small ponds. On our property, you'll find frogs, turtles, oak trees, pine trees and stunning views of Yosemite.
We have several campsites to choose from including RV camping, tent camping, and a glamping tent. Pets are welcome. Campfires are permitted as long as there is no fire ban. Potable water and toilet are available onsite.
There's a golf course less than a mile away. We are also very close to town. In just a few minutes, you can drive to our local grocery store and pizza parlour.
We are a 10-minute drive to Pine Mountain Lake. Beautiful Pine Mountain Lake offers golfing, dining, horseback riding, water sports and an airport.
When you come to the ranch it feels like you are hundreds of miles away from civilization, but still close to everything you need. It is incredibly peaceful!
This is a great place for someone who wants to escape city life and enjoy the tranquillity of nature.

Located within 45 minutes of the wine country and 2 miles from the coast, our property is 400 acres of rolling hills and redwood groves, with a creek running along its base. With miles of trails meandering through quiet woods and meadows, you will be able to revel in the tranquility of a private preserve, without sacrificing easy access to some of Sonoma County's most famous attractions. A hundred years ago, this land was used to graze sheep. Remnants of the old fence lines can still be seen in places, along with old cement troughs. Since then, the land has been left to its own devices, passing through many hands, most famously owned by two brothers in the 1980's who built a truly amazing tree house in the forest which has been featured in several magazine articles. It was revamped and updated in 2016 by a master craftsman, using fallen redwood logs found on the property and is now a unique structural work of art, available for overnight stays. We produce 100% grass fed, dry-aged beef on our certified organic pastures and have a store on site if you would like to purchase delicious steaks, ribs, ground beef for hamburgers or some roasts to take home. Our cattle graze on the native grasses, never grain, and drink only water produced from our own springs. We also raise Kiko meat goats and produce pastured, certified organic duck eggs on a commercial basis. Whether it's surfing at sandy beaches, award-winning clam chowder, a wine tour, horseback riding or a hot air balloon ride you're after, you won't have far to drive if you make our ranch your base camp. You may see a family of deer appear suddenly, or a few Scottish Highland cows which we allow to roam freely over the property. There are over twenty species of wild birds that grace this protected spot, so bring your binoculars! A portion of your fee goes towards protecting native flora and fauna as part of our private wildlife preservation program. A limited number of private, widely spaced camp spots are available for visitors. The Eagles' Nest Treehouse (mentioned above) is very isolated and you may or may not even be aware that there are other people within miles of you. Weekend Trip to Magical Harrison Serenity Ranch
Harrison Serenity Ranch is a special place that all San Diegans should experience. It’s so close, but still so far removed from city life- a real treat. Vicki and her team do an incredible job of making the site accessible for everyone, from traditonal tent sites to glamorous tents, to tiny home, there’s something for everyone. The running water is a nice touch and something that makes the whole experience that much nicer. There’s even some unique history to learn about, from when Native Americans roamed the land. It’s cool, it’s quant, and so easy to get to. Definitely check it out

Our stay at Songdog Ranch in the Pup Dog cabin was absolutely wonderful. It truly felt like a home away from home with a perfect mix of comfort and glamping. The scenery is breathtaking—wide open views, peaceful surroundings, and incredible sunsets that made every evening special.
One of our favorite parts was riding our bikes through the property during the day and then cooking BBQ at night while watching the sun go down over the hills. The ranch is quiet, relaxing, and the perfect place to escape city life and slow down for a few days.
You can really tell this place is special and cared for. We loved reading the guest book and seeing how many people have enjoyed this ranch before us. We left feeling refreshed, grateful, and already talking about coming back.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful ranch getaway with unforgettable views.

The Eagles Nest and Salmon Creek Ranch are absolutely magical!! If you get the opportunity to visit and stay please do so!! We stayed for two nights our time was a fairy tale! From our walks in the forest to the river, having lunch in the pasture hanging with the highland cows, eating the delicious meat at there little store and staying in the trees! It was all absolute perfection! John and Lesley are fabulous hosts and the entire experience was incredible! We will be back many more times!!!

What a special place! There was a campfire set-up and we just needed to light a match when we arrived. We stayed in Cabin 2, and I'd say all the cabins are about equal in terms of privacy/proximity. The heated mattress pad has two controllers (woohoo!). There's a small, heated community room if you need to warm up, or want a warm space to make coffee (tools for french press, pour-over, and coffee maker available). There is a place to store food, a couple of refrigerators, a few small BBQs, a 2-burner propane stove, and a small supply of pots/pans. There are short hikes and longer hikes through the forest right from camp, which feels luxurious. This is basic, old-school, feel-good glamping, in a great location, with attentive hosts. It was perfect.

If you’re looking for a peaceful little escape that’s still easy to get to, this spot in the hills of the Cuyama Valley is absolute magic—and it’s only about 1.5 hours from the Central Coast. The scenery alone is worth the trip: rolling hills, lush greenery, and wildflowers everywhere. It’s quiet in the kind of way that makes you realize how loud everyday life usually is.
We stayed in the Pink Pony Yurt and it was such a fun and cozy place to land after a day exploring the area.
Our host Nate was incredibly welcoming and gracious from the start. You can tell he really cares about the space and the people staying there. He and his partner also clearly have a lot of love for their animals and take wonderful care of them, which makes the whole place feel even more special.
The setup had everything we needed: a fire pit for cozy evenings, tidy sawdust bathrooms, and even a working shower out in nature (which felt surprisingly luxurious after a day outside). Everything felt clean, safe, and thoughtfully maintained.
There’s also a little petting zoo on the property and guests have the option to collect eggs. We didn’t pick our own, but Nate kindly gave us a half dozen fresh eggs which felt like such a sweet bonus.
If you want a quiet getaway where you can slow down, enjoy nature, and maybe make a few farm animal friends, this place is a gem. Would absolutely stay again.

Weekend Trip to Baby Banana Slug Farm
Second time here and brought my friends and we booked all the cabins. It was an awesome experience together. The kitchen was upgraded a bit and it was so nice to cook and serve ourselves in there. Nate was really nice to allow us all I have a fire. Got us all the wood chopped and ready for us. The shower felt hotter this time and was so very nice. We saw a baby banana slug and bigger ones all over!

The bell tent is super charming and comfortable! It’s spacious with a comfy bed and it stays nice and warm with the heater on at night. The lighting is magical and warm, and the property is a little oasis in these rocky rolling hills of Practically Mexico, California. Huge trees and a creek! Very special place. This was our first time glamping and we couldn't have picked a better spot to go. The water tank was comfortable and cozy. The bed padding was wonderful and Jen the host was so nice and gracious. There is a 24 hour self serve store that has everything you can think of. When we got to our site, there was firewood, a basket with kitchen utensils and water ready for us to go. We were able to see a couple of shooting stars at night and listen to the coyotes howl. This was an unforgettable experience and we will be back.
