Located on the John Muir Historic route to Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Westlake Campground and RV Park is convenient to all things Yosemite.
Between here and the park is Rainbow Pool, a well-known swimming hole that campers here often visit on their way back to the campground for a refreshing dip in the cool waters.
Coulterville was started as a gold-rush town. You can visit the museum and visitor center even try your hand at panning for gold.
Mac's campground offers a mix of experiences with its proximity to Yosemite being a major plus for many visitors. The cleanliness of the bathrooms and the availability of hot showers receive frequent praise, although some guests mention issues with noise and close proximity to other campers. Wildlife sightings, friendly hosts, and the presence of a charming camp cat add to the rustic appeal of the site. However, a few reviews note concerns about the campsite's maintenance and lack of privacy, which might not suit everyone's camping expectations.
We had a lovely stay at Mac’s campground. It is less than an hour drive to the Yosemite West entrance and we were able to get an early start and have a full day in Yosemite. The restroom facility was clean, showers had warm water, and we appreciated the sink behind the restrooms to wash our dishes. We stayed in one of the many cabins and had no issues. The heater in the cabin was really nice especially during the winter season. Mac came by our site to say hello and was very friendly. I will definitely look to stay again in the future when making a trip to Yosemite.
My boyfriend, our dog and I stayed here in November. We rented a tent space and slept in our car— it was more than we had hoped for. Mac and his wife provide restrooms, showers, cooking supplies and plenty of stoves for any campers to use. The space is breathtaking— surrounded by deer and neighborhood dogs (keep a lookout for sticks, a bordercollie that loves to play fetch), this space is perfect for anyone looking to use this as their base to Yosemite. We did not have any issue finding a secluded space and greatly enjoyed the peace and quiet that comes with staying here. We found ourselves very fortunate to stay here. If you are looking for a spa treatment, that is not what this is. We saw some reviews that did not match our experience here and I think that has to do with expectations for everything to be spick and span. The campsite is clean, well taken care of, and wildlife is respected. There are plenty of spaces to park/camp and Mac is very gracious with his time.
If you are looking for an authentic trailer park experience in the USA then this is your go. Host was very friendly and informative re roads and travelling into Yosemite Park . Showers were Hot . Very hard to find level ground . Dogs ,cats and other residents very noisy all night with lots of coming and going. Probably safer not to camp here if you are travelling by yourself.
Great place, has clean restrooms. The travel time to Yosemite is not great (1.15hrs) but the views starting mid way make up for it!
Also this place has a super dog named Mac who loves to play fetch with a long stick and loves to show off his skills lol. And there’s a friendly cat (maybe named Chase?)
It’d be really great if it had a small play area for kids
Our experience was not good. The online photo of the campsite looked good. In real time it was dirty and unkept.. There was not a level place to place our tent. The area was full of wild turkey poop. The bathrooms were dirty. Neither my husband nor I would use the shower. The one nice thing was that the bathroom was heated. It was very disappointing. We will not use HIPCAMP again to find a campsite.
