A unique private home milled camping cabin designed and built by the host. Tranquility on the edge of a whimsical forest full of Redwood trees, Pines, Oaks, Hemlocks, Rhododendrons, Ferns, wildflowers and mushrooms. The cabin is on our 8 acre property, only about 7 minutes to the historic village of Mendocino. Beaches and trails close by and waiting for you to explore! Hear the ocean waves crashing in the distance, if you listen closely you may even hear the seals chatting. In the spring see the tall brilliant pink rhododendrons bloom. Star gaze at night and listen to the trees talking through the costal breeze while keeping warm by the fire pit, and stay cozy inside the cabin by the mini wood burning stove. Use the tea kettle to brew up a delicious drink to sip. All while making memories to last!PLEASE READ FULL DESCRIPTION to know what is included and what to expect. Foxfern cabin is a glamping (camping lite) experience in a forest. Hand milled and built by the host. A lot of hard work and detail went into the making of this unique cabin for our guest to enjoy! VIEWS, CAMPFIRE AND MINI WOOD STOVE: Windows all around and double french doors open out on the deck for views of the forests edge. Enjoy the campfire out doors and the mini wood burning stove indoors. PRIVACY: You will have privacy and won't be able to see the main house from the cabin site. Parking is by a trail with less than a minute walk to the cabin. LIGHTING: The cabin has electricity with limited voltage. It has a ceiling light and an outlet for charging phones and electronic devices. TRAIL SOLAR LIGHTS: Solar lights are outside along the trail and by the outhouse, they don't last too long since they are in the forest. We suggest bringing a lantern for the trail and the outhouse at night. BEDS: The cabin has a loft with a full size bed. Bring your favorite cozy blanket or sleeping bag for your visit. There is a futon as well that folds down into a full size bed with attachment. --Don't forget your pillow, sleeping bag or blankets!! We do not provide bedding. BATHROOM: On the side of the cabins wrap around deck is a composting pit outhouse kept neat and clean with a portable sink for hand washing only (Not Potable). FIREWOOD: We offer free firewood freshly hand cut from our property, therefore it is not completely dry. We use this same wood to heat our house and it is our only heat source. In the cabin there are instructions on how to build your fire. If you need help starting a fire let us know, we are happy to help. We want you to stay warm! WATER: Bring your own drinking water. There is no running water at the camp site. PETS: Well behaved house trained pets only. Clean up after your pets. Do not leave pets unattended. No pets allowed on the bed or couch. There is wildlife such as skunks, raccoons, foxes, and more! We have a horse, chickens, ducks, cats and a dog, so please always keep pets on a leash. COMPLEMENTARY: Complementary items included during your stay - Easy fire starter breakaway sticks, tea kettle, BBQ and Biodegradable TP. MENDOCINO VILLAGE: It's only about a 7 minute drive to the charming historic village of Mendocino, local small shops and restaurants. Close to beaches, trails, surfing, kayaking, biking, horseback riding and fishing. Visit Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, the Skunk Train in Fort Bragg, and Noyo harbor for fishing trips, whale watching and good food! FULL DISCLOSURE: Full disclosure - We have a Livestock Guardian Dog to protect our chickens, ducks, horse and cats from wildlife threats. She is a Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd named Nula. She does bark at wildlife, unfamiliar people and vehicles that drive by. While you are visiting she will not be allowed to roam free on the property and will stay contained within our home and backyard, but you may hear her bark at wildlife, she’s doing her job to protect our animals! We often have fox and bobcat sightings.

Foxfern Redwood Cabin in the Forest
Had the most amazing stay at this cozy cabin in Mendocino. Sitting by the fire each evening while surrounded by nature was just what we needed to relax and unwind. The setting was so peaceful and beautiful, and we felt completely at home. Perfect spot for a family getaway.

It was wonderful, secluded, everything I hoped it’d be. My pup and I had the best time!

Foxfern Redwood Cabin in the Forest
Loved it once again
Second October in a row and this was even better than the first stay. My bestie and I dressed as ghosts and had a little dance party and took pictures for our memories. We loved the new additions in and outside the cabin. Just as cozy and comfy as we remember. We absolutely are keeping this our Fall tradition. The decorations were so cute and the little candies in the cauldron was a sweet little treat.

Foxfern Redwood Cabin in the Forest
Quaint but not convenient
Not a fit for us. Would expect more amenities/effort from the hosts when spending hotel stay dollars in a camping spot. Needed more dry firewood supplied for sure. “Barbie” furnace takes a very long time be to heat the space. Was disappointed that the lights guiding guests to the cabin were all OFF when we arrived after dark, even though I had communicated to the house we wouldn’t be there till after dark.👎🏻 And if you choose to say there, don’t forget there is not a Wi-Fi signal, so to use the Hipcamp app to communicate with your host, you have to leave and drive in to town. 👎🏻 Lastly , if you are looking for that “camping in the woods-isolation vibe” this isn’t the place. Could hear sirens, people and dogs barking as much as we can at home in our own backyard. No denying the cabin itself is super COOL and the view of the trees is very peaceful. 👍🏻👍🏻
