San Elijo is a fairly large campground, with 171 sites stretched along the beach.

Sites aren’t know for their privacy, but the amazing views and access to the beach more than make up for it. Be sure to double check the availability of hookups when you are reserving your site: not all sites have the same amenities. Sites do fill up very quickly, so be sure to reserve yours several months in advance.

I've been camping here since I was 10 (now 36 sharing it with my growing family) It's the best!!! kids look forward to it every year and everyone camping is a micro community all there for the same reason. A very family friendly place. plus a couple standout surf spots nearby.

Get a burrito at Bull Taco and watch the sunset from the cliff!

Straight up surf camp along PCH. It's an excuse to roll out of your tent or camper into the water. Not really camping, but worth it to get out of the house and be the first one in the line up.

overlooks the ocean from a bluff, you need to be able to descend a large flight of stairs to get to the beach. campsites are pretty close together.

Easy access, but not for those that want to get away from it all! Great starter camping spot for kids or folks who need amenities nearby.

This campground is in an urban area, built on a strip of land between Highway 101 and the Ocean. There is a high amount of noise here from the surf, traffic or the train cruising by. That being said all the amenities of town are right outside the gate. Coffee shops, many eateries and a market are within walking distance. The bus line stops outside the gate and 2 miles away in Solana Beach is a train station for the Coaster Line that provides transportation to and from San Diego. The campground itself is well laid out and although showing signs of wear is clean and maintained. Beach access is easy and the scene there is always active. You’re on the beach in CA, and that is a good thing.

Great surf, close to good coffee and groceries. Fills up fast! You can hear the train and highway if you're not on beachfront campsite.

Your guide to camping in San Elijo Campground

Overview

Biking

While this park isn’t known for its epic mountain biking paths, there is nothing wrong with a lovely shoreline meander. There is a small path that runs alongside the beach that is great for roller blading, biking, and running, and can be a nice alternative if you need a break from the salt and sun.

Boating

Motorized boating isn’t really a thing here (there are no launch spots), but you can definitely explore via paddle. Check out the kayaking, canoeing and SUP sections for more information.

Fishing

Sun on your back, sand under your toes, and the surf up to your knees, which, along with the mist off the breakers, keeps you cool in the SoCal heat as you work on perfecting your cast. Back at your chair there is a refreshing beverage and a good book waiting, and the rest of the afternoon, stretched in front of you golden and warm. Is there anything better? Well, maybe if you catch one of these license, of course), but be sure to keep to the land: there is no kayak or boat fishing here.

Surfing

Surf’s up at this park, which is home to the Pipe, one of the best spots along the coast to catch a great ride. Need proof? The park actually houses the Eli Howard surf school, where aspiring surfers of all ages can hone their technique (it also offers a surfing summer camp, which we think sounds pretty awesome). Check out the forecast here, then grab your board and hit the waves, dude!

Swimming

Let’s be real: swimming is the main event here. San Diego is famous for its mild, year-round climate, which makes the beaches delightful just about any time of year. One of the GREAT things about this park is that, aside from a small daily visitor lot, it’s really only campers enjoying the beach. Depending on the time of year, that can mean you might have the shoreline just about to yourself (summers are, of course, extremely popular). So, whatever you do, don’t forget your swimsuit, grab your boogie board, and hit that gorgeous surf.
