Nestled under the Watagan mountains escarpment in the Hunter valley, the property has some amazing views in all directions, but still remains secluded and hidden from view. The property has been selectively cleared to maintain a balance of open land and untouched bushland which has a boundary to the Watagans National Park. The animal life is very diverse as many species transition from the Watagans into the property and many live on site full time. These include flocks of amazing bird species such as Gang gang and Black Cockatoos, resident Wedge tailed eagles, Kookaburras, finches, honey eaters, Coucals, Lyrebirds and more. Wallabies of various types are common, and Sugar gliders can be seen on the flowering Eucalypts. The camping areas for RV's sit on a large elevated flat area that border a large gorge with broken views towards the Hunter Valley vineyards. The Gorge (or Canyon) is rimmed by caves and has rainforest type trees in the bottom. The caves can be explored and the rainforest can be walked if you are fit! The tent and camper trailer areas are terraced into an area of slight slope with a number of sites to chose from. Non potable water taps are available at each caravan site and at intervals in the camping area. This water is clear fresh dam or bore water and can be used for showers, washing up etc. Two flush toilets are available for use by both RV's and campers. There is a central fire pit. We have a private site which has open views over the Hunter Valley to the Vineyards and beyond to the Barrington tops. This site has a cliff edge pool that comfortably fits up to 4 people for a dip. This area has a large fire pit that can be used to heat the pool in winter. This site has its own flushing toilet and Shower. This site is best suited to a caravan as it is terraced, though it would be possible to setup tents or a camper van in this location also. This can also be booked as a group site. 16minutes to Cessnock, 25minutes to the M1, 2.25 hours to Sydney central and 25 minutes to Pokolbin. The location is generally very peaceful with all sorts of wildlife. There is plenty of ground sticks for fire wood and bulk timber for purchase.

The dangerous dog in question bit 4 people in less than 24 hours. Including my husband twice. You know your dog, But you cannot predict what another campers's dog is going to be like. Any dog on the NSW dangerous dogs list is absolutely not welcome here. Free use of fire pits and free firewoods. You will need to be split the logs yourself. axes and wheelbarrows are supplied. Hot showers and decent toilets, Good mobile phone signal. Two Communal Fridges .There is lots of space for campers. We have two sites with shade, four without. We suggest you bring a decent quality gazebo or equivalent. If you choose a non-shady site and then it's sunny, it is beyond our control. We are located on a dead end road, so very rare to have any traffic after 8pm. PLEASE NOTE: 1) We ONLY ALLOW ONE camper trailer or ONE caravan per site. From record rain to drought conditions in 3 months. We are 40 minutes out from the heart of Hunter Valley wine country, minutes away from a few local beaches; Norah Head, Catherine Hill Bay, Soldiers Beach or Caves Beach. All have cafes or pubs close. If you are wanting to head to the bush the Watagan Mountains which are our backdrop has endless picnic spots/look outs etc where you can enjoy driving, walking, dirt/push bike tracks or if you have a specific mountain bike buzz you can head to Awaba Mountain Bike trail. Rocklee is on Wiradjuri land, a short drive from Capertee, surrounded by Gardens of Stone and Capertee national parks and the Mugii Murrum-ban State Conservation Area. Rocklee is 2.5 hours from Sydney and Dubbo, and a short drive to swimming at Turon and Coorongooba National Parks, sightseeing at Glen Davis, bird watching near Glen Alice and the terrific cafe ‘From the Paddock’. Access is 4wd only. (We’re serious!) Our road has ‘roll overs’, rocks and a couple of tight turns on large gradients so you need a vehicle with 20cm+ clearance. If you are towing a camper trailer, you need a good 4wd engine to get back up the hill confidently. Each campsite is a VERY long way from other sites - usually about 800m. Rocklee has a mix of no-longer used paddocks and about 950 acres of untouched bush. You will arrive through the conservation area, which has beautiful pagodas and endless bushwalks. Rocklee is a good site for star gazing. Hipcampers can choose from plenty of space where they'd like to set up camp. Please be careful as some paddocks are overgrown, fences have come down and there are lots of wombat holes, so drive slowly and be careful. There are no amenities here, campers need to be self contained and leave no trace. This means you need to bring water, use existing fireplaces and take your rubbish, recycling and compost with you. (You need to bring water from home or elsewhere on the way. Please note you cannot fill up free tap water at Capertee - either at the BP, the picnic area or the pub. It just doesn’t rain enough to fill up the tanks. Sorry!)

There is access to shared swimming holes, wildlife and bush walks on the property, bring your mountain bikes to ride and explore. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area! The property backs onto the Turon National Park and you will pass the Gardens of Stone National Park at the turn off to property (popular 4WD destination). It's a short drive to the absolutely spectacular Capertee Valley lookout which is the widest and second largest canyon in the world and also very popular for bird watching. You can also take a drive down to Glen Davis Shale Oil Works ruins or spend the day with a trip to the Mudgee Vineyards for some wine sampling! Lovely large campsite, we had a 13ft hybrid van and a camper trailer, best of both worlds plenty of sun for the solar and beautiful large shade trees to sit under. Heaps of room for the kids to ride their bikes, right on the river. Just a perfect spot. Jo (our host) was so lovely we will definitely be back.

Willowbank was a relaxing overnight break with my dog. Well maintained site on the banks of Karuah River, overlooking their beautiful farm landscape. The hosts are great. The only thing to mention is you can hear road noise most of the night from The Bucketts Way, however the flowing river sounds ensure it doesn’t ruin the overall experience.

Lovely property, excellent facilities and wonderful hospitality. The caves and brook were lovely and there was plenty of open space for kids to kick a ball and ride bikes. There was some noise from the wedding nearby but the owners make that clear in the description and it didn't go too late. Recommended!

The land is big enough that you feel semi private in your camping spot but with clean and high quality toilets and showers and a great communal area for relaxing, games and sheltering from the weather

We had a great time at Fame Mountain camp. The sites were spacious and gave us privacy. On quiet nights, it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The toilets/facilities were really clean which is such a rarity at camp! Our little ones kept describing the toilets and hot showers as ‘luxurious’. Each site had a fire pit. The free firewood and Zooper Dooper for the kids were a huge hit. Beaches and hikes were only a 15mins drive away. Super convenient. Mei and John were very lovely and made sure we were enjoying our stay. We would definitely come back again. Thanks for having us!

Bonus to have spotless clean flushing toilets. Beautiful morning to watch all the wallabies large and small feeding on all sides of our van. And on our way out we managed to see a beautiful deer. The area is very spacious, a slight slope but easily manageable. Will definitely be back.
