"Willowbank" is a stunning 252 acre property located in the picturesque Karuah River valley with 1km of river frontage. The property has been in our family for 4 generations, being bought by Ian's great grandfather in the 1920's. We cater for guests that are looking to get back to nature and enjoy the great outdoors without feeling overcrowded! We want our guests to be happy and have the best experience possible. Located only 8 minutes drive from the historical town of Stroud which was settled by the AA Company in the 1820's as a food growing area. There are still many beautiful buildings from that period to explore. A dairy farm for many years, we switched over to beef around 15 years ago. Currently we run around 120 head of Angus and mixed breed cattle. Within 3 hours drive of Sydney and around an hour from the Barrington National Parks, Newcastle, Maitland, Forster and Nelson Bay, it makes it the perfect destination for a weekend getaway! We are offering 6 beautiful, partly shaded, camping sites along the pristine Upper Karuah River. All sites are separated for privacy and are all right on the edge of the river. There are plenty of opportunities for bird watching, hiking, swimming, kayaking, fishing (in summer), star gazing or just relaxing. All sites are site only and no toilet or shower facilities are provided. You will need to bring your own camping toilet or self contained caravan/ camper (dump point is located in Stroud township) We hope to make your stay a pleasurable one with many happy memories made. (Subject to fire restrictions). Grab a blanket and watch the stars on a clear night or cast a line to catch a bass or mullet during the summer months. Perfect spot for sitting in the water and cooling off or bring your raft or kayak and float down the river. River shoes or old sneakers are preferred as the rocks can be slippery. There are many bird watching opportunities around the campsite and may even spot a platypus at the pump hole too. Go for a hike or bring your mountain bike as there are many trails up the mountain and out the back of the property. There are no toilet or shower facilities provided so please bring your own camping toilet etc. There is a dump point located in Stroud township, 10 minutes away. All rubbish must be removed from the site on departure. Pets must be under control at all times as we have cattle and working dogs in the vicinity. We enjoyed the space and privacy of this campsite for our three families to camp. Floating on the river was so relaxing and beautiful. Jo was a great host, responsive helpful and the ability to but firewood was really helpful. We would stay again!

An absolute gem! Riverside camping at its best. Our camper trailer was perfectly positioned in a great spot with easy access to the river. The sound of the rapids at night was something to behold. The whole property is well maintained and is easy to find. Hosts are welcoming and helpful. Looking forward to some winter camping with a nice warm fire. Fishing is great as well!

Lovely large campsite, we had a 13ft hybrid van and a camper trailer, best of both worlds plenty of sun for the solar and beautiful large shade trees to sit under. Heaps of room for the kids to ride their bikes, right on the river. Just a perfect spot. Jo (our host) was so lovely we will definitely be back.

Willowbank was a relaxing overnight break with my dog. Well maintained site on the banks of Karuah River, overlooking their beautiful farm landscape. The hosts are great. The only thing to mention is you can hear road noise most of the night from The Bucketts Way, however the flowing river sounds ensure it doesn’t ruin the overall experience.

We just spent three nights at Willowbank Hipcamp on the Riverview site, and it was incredible. The spot is beautifully maintained, wonderfully private, and set right on the stunning river. From our first enquiry to our final day, Jo and Ian were perfect hosts. We loved the amazing birdlife, swimming in the cascades, and relaxing by the fire under the stars each night. Willowbank — we can’t wait to return!

We loved our night stay on The Rapids site. Very beautiful, private peaceful location. Even got to have a swim in the river. Hosts were very friendly we enjoyed getting to chat with them about the history of the farm. Would 100% recommend booking in and checking it out.

Willow bank is an amazing property with lots of peace and quiet. All sites are far enough apart that you can't see or hear any other campers. Not long had our second visit there and will definitely be back. Ian and Jo are great hosts with a few tips on local places to visit and the best pub meal.

We had the most wonderful weekend away at Willowbank, campsite- The Rapids. Joanne was a gracious, attentive host with excellent communication. The site was gorgeous-well maintained and picturesque, situated above the gorgeous running river. We all loved swimming in the rapids and deep water hole, cooking over an open flame and watching the adjacent cattle roam in the nearby paddock. Thank you Joanne. We will be back!

Stayed at the paperbarks camp and it was just the best… very relaxing and peaceful spot. Even had the horses come up to camp to say hello… was so easy to get to the camp and the host was very helpful in getting us to our spot. Was close to Stroud for a trip in for some lunch. Will definitely be back

Willowbank is a Beautiful property, down in the creek it feels like your a world away, even from the camp site, There is so many different elements to this property, wide open spaces, rolling hills, the creek canopy of trees, the bird life and it’s spacious from the next campers. Willowbank is a great place to base yourself if you are looking to explore the Dungog/ Gloucester area. On the banks of the Karuah River, clear and clean water. If you're quiet and lucky enough even spot a few platypus. Nice expansive grassy areas, shady through most of the day. Ian and Jo are great host, with loads of local information. Book a site for a night or two, it won't dissappoint. We'll go back. Dogs are welcomed, just keep them in check, there is cattle on the property.

It was nice and relaxing. I did want so much to get to the water but I found it too dangerous. I would like a path down to the water where the rapids are. The horses and dogs are gorgeous and friendly I had trouble booking through hicamp The access road needs a bit of fixing as it is too rutted in a couple of parts Overall it is a nice place to stay with the above improvements it will be a lot better
