RV camping in Bay Area guide

Overview

From surfing at Ocean Beach to exploring redwoods to sailing past Alcatraz Island, the Bay Area has plenty of outdoor delights for RVers. In Marin County, go hiking or biking in Golden Gate National Recreation Area before a night at an enroute campsite for self-contained RVs. In Sonoma, grab a bottle of pinot to enjoy around the campfire at an RV park near the Russian River. To the east, enjoy birdwatching and fishing at Benicia State Recreation Area or hiking on Mt. Diablo. In the south, beaches and the Santa Cruz Mountains run parallel, where you can hike, surf, or marvel at the giants of Big Basin Redwoods State Park before spending the night at an RV resort along Highway 9. Even within San Francisco, it’s easy to get outdoors in Golden Gate Park, the Marina district, and the Presidio. The Bay Area’s microclimates provide year-round camping-friendly weather but check wildfire warnings in summer and fall.
