RV camping near Sacramento guide

Overview

Positioned between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe at the junction of interstates 5 and 80, Sacramento is within a couple hours’ drive of some of California’s top outdoor attractions, making it an ideal RV destination. Surrounding highlights include boating and swimming at Lake Berryessa in Wine Country, rafting or tubing on the American River, biking and fishing at Folsom Lake, and hiking the Alpine trails of Eldorado National Forest in the Sierra Nevada. RV parks in town typically feature hookups and amenities such as pools or dog parks; some sit on the Sacramento River. As you head toward Tahoe, there are more RV parks along I-5 and Highway 50. Sacramento has hot, dry summers and mild Winters. The city sits at a low elevation, but if you park closer to the mountains, it will be cooler with the possibility of snow in the winter. Mountain passes near Tahoe often close in bad weather, creating standstill traffic.
