RV camping near San Jose guide

Overview

San Jose is the economical heart of Silicon Valley, but don’t let that fool you into thinking the city doesn’t offer access to the outdoors. About an hour south of San Francisco without traffic (rare), San Jose has water to the north, rolling hills to the east, mountains to the west, and beaches just over those ridges. Discover California’s coastal redwoods at Big Basin Redwoods or Portola Redwoods State Park, get away from it all in the vast Ohlone Regional Wilderness, or head down to Santa Cruz for surfing and a walk along the beach boardwalk. A lesser-known highlight of the area is Henry W. Coe State Park, where you can go hiking, mountain biking, or horseback riding amid canyons and mountain landscapes. RV parks can be found south of town along Highway 101 and along Highway 9, near the redwoods. Many state parks accommodate RVs but not always with hookups.
