Description
Do you want a remote campsite, but without all of the hassle that’s sometimes involved with getting to the more remote places in Minnesota? Enter Windy Lake! This place is smack dab in the middle of nowhere, but it’s super easy to reach. Keep in mind that there’s only one site available, so having a backup plan isn’t a bad idea. Might we suggest giving backcountry camping a go? The lake’s shore also has three additional backcountry campsites that can be reached via boat. For more info about those sites, check out this resource.

I actually camped on Knife Lake in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It was one of the best experiences in my life since we performed geological mapping by canoe. We dove for, cooked, and ate fresh water clams, witnessed bald eagles and seagulls fighting over food, portaged into some of the least-visited lakes in the area and came out of it with a published geological map!
