You'll be camping on our Stanley lake sugarbush property. Lakefront sites have power and water - are located in a grassy clearing on the shores of Stanley Lake. ABSOLUTELY NO CHARGING OF ELECTRIC VEHICLES ON PROPERTY!! Primitive sites are amongst the maple trees of our sugarbush operation, within walking distance of the lake. These sites do not yet have water or electricity, but water is available from spigots at the lake clearing. Stanley lake is just shy of 400 acres, known for walleye and bass. It is an all sports lake with no limited wake hours. Feel free to roam our woods - you will notice the blue maple lines come to an end at our east and west property lines, as well as a no trespassing sign on the lake clearing to the west line. Deer here are plentiful, and you can often get them to eat from your hand, provided you have apples. Iron county has a tremendous ORV/snowmobile trail system. You can drive your machine right from our property to the trails. There are two golf courses in the area, as well as a vast bicycle trail system. Ski Brule ski hills and sporting clay operation are a few miles from the property. Countless acres of public land for recreation!

It's situated on 21 acres of what was the original Wawonowin Country Club, a 9-hole golf course that was built in the early 1800s and then closed in the mid 1960s. And now we have a beautiful mix of hardwoods and pines, forests and fields with multiplied non-motorized trails accessible right off the property. The very popular RAMBA bike trails are literally an ‘stones throw’ away! Our biggest site, Fairway Field is big enough for group camping that horse campers love, and one site, the Homestead, with an electric hookup. I have a place to rest for a couple nights, there is a small non motorized lake across the road. Dunbar is not to far away and there you can find Thermal Chaos, it's a great bbq place, they also have great burgers and 24 hr 91 non ethanol gas. You can also try Richard's supper club for great food also. I am also right on the atv trail. Marinette country has many waterfalls to explore also. Please follow the golden rule of camping and hiking is “leave no trace.” Anything you bring in, must be carried out. Please pack your waste, trash and recyclables, and take it with you when you leave. You may use dead and downed wood as firewood, but do not cut live trees or brush. Keep fires small and make sure your campfire is out before you leave. I hope you have a great time!

This spot is a truly perfect off-grid getaway. I couldn't have asked for a more prepared or inviting experience. The host went above and beyond by having the wood stove prepped and ready for immediate use, along with some initial firewood provided. Since the temperature dropped into the 30s, I did burn through two bundles of wood over the course of the night to stay warm (which worked perfectly, with the fire only needing restarting once!). The cabin itself is a cozy sanctuary, and it was exactly the recharge I needed. I am already wanting my next trip back! Future visitors: If you're staying during cold weather, be prepared for at least two bundles of wood to last the night. Also, I highly recommend bringing a good camping lantern with you, a flashlight felt a little weak for lighting the whole space.

Such a beautiful property with walking trails throughout. The fall colors were at peak and it was lovely & peaceful. Phil and Joni were wonderful hosts -- the kind of people that makes your stay even better. Both were very kind and fun to chat with. I mustn't forget to mention their sweet dogs. The little one, Becky, was my little guy's new best friend. And Silver - what a gentle soul. The beautiful black Collie is a bit stand-offish, but she finally let me pet her. If you're lucky, the two horses will visit you at your campsite. Heritage Hills is truly a gem. 💕

This was the 2nd time staying at the Greens and both times have been phenomenal. It’s private and peaceful. Joni and Phil do an excellent job of making sure you have everything you need without intruding. The port-a-potty was one of the cleanest I’ve seen.

We had a wonderful weekend at Diana’s place! Everything we could’ve needed was provided, and the location was easy to find. She was kind enough to let us meet her dogs and made sure the mud on the trail was covered each day. Definitely will be coming back again!

Weekend Trip to Da Sugarbush on Stanley Lake

Silver Maple tent site has abundant room including two picnic tables. Surroundings offered a flat tent space, lovely tall trees to hear the wind’s rustle leaves and look up at the canopy above with mesh ceiling. Near a pit outhouse, bonus. Just a brief gravel road to beautiful wood showers and more amenities like an outdoor sink with faucet, Starlink internet and dock at lakeside for stargazing or other fun. Welcoming hosts, just look for gravel road turn by handful mailboxes before/after Wicklund (don’t turn there). You’ll know the entry point from seeing blue property lines. Look forward to a return trip!!

About

An intriguing mix of history and nature, Bewabic State Park features a 2-mile trail, wooded areas, easy access to several landmarks of interest and a beach area and boat launch on stunning Fortune Lake. Feeling lucky? Hell yeah, you are! Many of the manmade structures used in the park today were built by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) and offer a cool glimpse into an earlier time. To supplement the historical angle, you can visit the Iron County Museum in nearby Caspian or an Indian burial ground in Pentoga Park. To supplement the fun, you can hit the beach and playgrounds, or take advantage of the only tennis courts available at any state park in Michigan. Game on!

When to go

The ideal time to visit Bewabic State Park is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is warm and the park is in full bloom. Fall also offers a spectacular display of colors, making it a great time for photographers and nature lovers. Winter can be harsh, with heavy snowfall limiting access to certain areas.
