Arcadia is the name we gave to our 83-acre mountainside retreat center for Earth-Based Spirituality. It’s nestled on the south-eastern slope of 4000-foot Mount Pleasant in Central Virginia, convenient to I81. (Note, there is a town called Arcadia off I81, but that is not us. Not to confuse.) We have a mountain creek with waterfalls, towering Beech and Sycamore trees, Witch Hazels leaning over the water, trout, crayfish, snakes, salamanders, and all the rest. We have about 2000 feet of the vertical mountainside with trails to explore. (But the stage and most of the camping is down closer to creek-level.) There are more sites higher up the mountain if you like more isolated camping. More of a trek to the bathrooms/showers/freshwater. We have one of the finest private stages on the East Coast with a top-notch sound system and a natural amphitheater which is like a single pie wedge of a Stadium that has regular live performances throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Our yurt is regularly booked as a unique glamping experience. There are chickens, ducks, turkeys, and guinea fowl free-roaming. Two dogs, nine cats, and several humans are blessed to call this home.

This spot is incredible! Beautiful campground, clean bathrooms and showers. Adorable dog that greeted us every morning and evening. Next to a creek and a pond on the land. Super close to pleasant mountain that had a fun hike!.

Glamping experience in a yurt
The yurt was exactly what we needed over the long weekend. While it is a bit of a drive from the main road, the cows and view are so worth it. Do be advised that the yurt is made of plastic, so it kind of retains heat— whether or not that’s a good thing depends on the season. The creek especially was such a reprieve from the heat of the day, and breakfast on the little deck was just so perfect. Don’t be deterred by the loveable loo— it was very convenient to not have to walk to the flush toilet in the dark (even though it’s not far off!). We got some farm fresh eggs with some of the richest yolks I’ve ever had as well. I will say that all but one of the lanterns and fans were dead/had no battery when we arrived, but Fran kindly charged them up. She was responsive, kind, and I’d be so happy to be her guest again in the future.

Hidden Gem!
Such a beautiful and serene piece of land! I was blown away by how accepting and accommodating Fran and her help were as hosts. Such a friendly place where you can just be yourself and escape. Tons of privacy even though I was only two minutes from the shower/bathroom, only visitor I had over a two night tent stay by the pond was the good boy Buddy doing his nightly rounds, but a friendly ear nearby if you need anything at all. Great views, a beautiful creek to enjoy, even a hike up their side of the mountain if you’d like! It’s definitely worth it imo! There are even more spots to camp at different points up the mountain too. This a definitely a hidden gem that I will visiting again! And if you do go to Arcadia, you MUST have some of Fran’s blueberry pancakes at least one morning, hands down the best I’ve ever had!

We loved tent camping on Fran’s land. Our site was secluded and quiet and we loved being the location.

We had a great time! The spot was perfect and the shower and bathroom were really well kept! Our host was wonderful with helping us find the property when our GPS stop working at night haha.
