Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. We'd like to share the camp with others and see it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.

RV Site 1
We really enjoyed the peaceful setting on Adam's land. Adam always answered the text immediately when we had questions and assisted us right away. We are new to RV camping and this was our first camp ground to visit. The bathroom and showers were clean and nicely painted 🎨 We would recommend this campground to anyone. Go ThunderBRidge!

Site 6 (aka Woodpecker 7)
Site 6 (Woodpecker 7) was nice. It was real close to the creek and you could hear it the whole time which was nice. The place was nice a secluded could barely hear other people. The host was nice and provided supplies when needed. All in all a great place to have a fun weekend with friends.

Unique, Sweet, and Serene!
I rarely use the word, "unique," but in this case I can say that Thunder Bridge is a beautiful and unique space and so serene. We found the story behind Thunder Bridge very interesting, and the artists and their studios make the place even more special. Adam met us and took us to our space, and explained everything in detail. We met his parents, James and Karen, who were fun to talk to and to visit their studios and see their beautiful artwork. Dave and I met a few of their friends and other artists as well. We enjoyed walking the property with our dog, Kate, and hanging out at our site. The night sky there is great, and we had a bonfire both nights. We would recommend Thunder Bridge for couples with pets, families with children, and folks looking for a fabulous off the beaten path experience. If you are looking for something to do near this camping site, you can also visit Natural Bridge. We enjoyed our surroundings at Thunder Bridge so much that we didn't leave the property until check out. We travel often with our teardrop camper and have been across the country and back several times visiting national parks and historic sites. We feel lucky to have found Thunder Bridge and will definitely return. We hope to meet our son there in the near future. He will enjoy the tent camping sites at TB, and we hope to be at site #1 again. Thank you Adam, James, and Karen for preserving this sweet place and making it available to campers.
