Nestled within a space tended by an at-home practicing monastic, with respect for all life and the more than human world, Sunbird Homestead is home to an amazing variety of flora, fauna, and varied ecosystems. Wetlands, cedar grove, apple orchard, and boreal forest line the outskirts of a large meadow. Trails wind their way through these spaces and provide privacy to those who stay here. In spring you will awaken to the redwing blackbirds and amphibian chorus. In summer, fireflies and birds of every sort flutter about. In autumn, dragonflies fill the air and crickets lull the space into a sleepy hum. The perfect tune to meet 'round the communal fire pit. Please note that the land sits off of a main road and the sound of traffic is present. This wooden yurt, designed by Bill Coperthwaite (author of Handmade Life: In Search of Simplicity), sits within a pine grove next to wetlands. This retreat space is offered for self-guided retreats (meditative, writing, etc), with intention around fostering mindfulness and deepening connection to the more than human world. The yurt is minimally furnished with a desk, meditation cushion, and a lamp. You will also have access to an outdoor picnic area, fire pit, outhouse, and water spigot (water is very fresh and drinkable from the tab). Firewood is provided. Please note that the space is not heated and there are no windows, just screens. Food is not permitted in the yurt in order to discourage hungry creatures from visiting you. There is a shed by the parking area where you can store food and charge your phone. Please also note that the yurt sits back from the main road, so the sound of traffic is present.
