A drive into town is quick. There's so much to explore in the valley and surrounding mountains - all a short distance from the house. Kern River runs all year as it is part of the Mt. Whitney drainage (the highest peak in the contiguous US). The river flow peaks in spring with the snow melt from higher peaks. This is the best time for whitewater rafting and kayaking. Late summer is good for tubing and floating when the river is lower. Fishing is best fall through early spring before the spring runoff. Winter brings snow to the higher elevations (rarely does snow stay long in Kernville). There's a natural snow ski resort 20 mins away and sledding is always fun. Hiking is good all year. In the hottest time of summer, it's best to hike early in the morning. GETTING AROUND: Roads in and around town are paved, well-maintained, wide and mostly calm. There are no traffic lights in Kernville! A car is a must to see most of the hiking spots and sightseeing, but you can walk to the nearby Whiskey Flat Trail (about a mile away). Bicycles are great for around town and some closer hiking trails. We love the walk into town through our rustic neighborhood (especially with our dog). Bring your bikes for road and trail riding. Guided river rafting tours are an amazing way to see the river! Tubing too. We'll share all our tips in a digital guidebook that we provide after booking. POLICIES: 1. Guest MUST review and accept the Rental Agreement and Contact Form that'll be emailed after booking. 2. No fireworks allowed (propane BBQ and fire pit are ok) 3. No events, parties, photoshoots without prior Owner approval. We have a Nest camera pointed at the street entry to ensure only registered Guests are on the property. *PLEASE ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS when booking: 1. What brings you to the area? 2. What is the # of adults and # of children of any age in your group? 3. Yes or No - Are you bringing a pet ? If Yes - please let us know breed, age, weight for pre-approval. :) Thanks!

It’s hard to put into words just how special the MoonShine Trailer is. The trailer is right on the river with the most spectacular views and relaxing river sounds. Check in / out was a breeze and Carol and Rod are fantastic hosts- they have truly thought of every little detail that will make you feel right at home. We loved all the seating / river viewing areas, the kitchen and whole trailer are very well stocked with everything you could even think you might need. The hot tub is beautiful and clean and the outdoor shower is well… just exceptional. We had an incredible time and will absolutely be back!

Perfect Riverside Retreat
Carol and Rod have thought of EVERYTHING... our time at the Kern River camper beat expectations (and we had high ones from the photos we saw of the place pre-trip). Everything is well labeled and super professionally managed. The place is self is nothing short of magical - I'd give it 11 out of 10 stars

This was such a peaceful and beautiful place to stay! Carol and Rod thought of everything, and were the absolute best host! The view of the river is so pretty. Inside is very cute and cozy, but it is easy to spend most of your time outside. From the hot tub, to the outdoor shower, to plenty of cozy outdoor furniture we loved every minute of this stay and already can’t wait to come back!

Honestly even better than we could have imagined. Every inch of the property is so clean and well-thought out. You are RIGHT on the river which is spectacular and actually cools the air down in the hot summer months. Carol and Rod were incredibly responsive... we never needed them for anything though because they had thought of everything. The town is a 3 minute drive or 20 minute walk away and fun to explore, lots of little antique stores. We will absolutely be back.

MoonShine RV was exactly what my fiancé and I were looking for to get away for a few days. The property was beautifully maintained and you can’t beat the view and sounds of the river. You can tell a lot of thought was put into making this spot a perfect private getaway. We had everything we needed there. Carol and Rod were very responsive and directions were clear and easy to follow. We throughly enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub, using the outdoor shower, stargazing at night, and reading in the hammock by the river. Needless to say, we will definitely be back!
