The best camping near Upper Delaware Scenic & Recreational River

Hike, boat, and fish along one of the most pristine rivers in the northeastern United States. The Upper Delaware River, in New York and Pennsylvania, is the only undammed river in this part of America. It's also prime fishing territory. The waterway gives kayakers of varying experience a chance to float down a historic river.

Rolling hills dot the landscape through five counties and 73 miles of lush forests, quaint riverside villages and wildlife habitats. Some of the towns along the river have changed little since the 1940s, so a vacation here can take you back to another era.

Migratory fish species are plentiful. Pick out a spot along the banks of the river, or float down the Upper Delaware to get close to the water. Large rocks in the middle of some sections create rapids, while other parts of the river form eddies where fish congregate and feast on plants and bugs.

There's plenty to do if you're not into fishing or boating. There are festivals in the summer and fall. The small towns around the river have a lot to celebrate. Surrounding mountains and hills, such as the Poconos, offer scenic drives and hiking trails. Fall foliage treks provide fantastic photo ops as you walk among nature's vibrant palette of reds, oranges, and yellows.
