With Mendocino National Forest only 20 minutes away, camping options near Covelo abound. The town itself doesn’t offer any campsites, but the national forest offers numerous accommodations and adventure. Stay in a cabin rental set 4,000 feet above sea level, pitch a tent at a rustic, hike-in campsite, or find convenient pull-through RV sites at bigger camping areas. Amenities vary at each campground, but picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, and potable water are available at most. Mornings are great for exploring deep canyons in the Cache Creek Wilderness area, trekking 40 miles of hiking trails in the Snow Mountain Wilderness area, or heading to Eel River to fish, swim, and boat. For a waterfront campsite with Pacific Ocean views, drive an hour and a half to Jackson Demonstration State Forest. The pet-friendly campgrounds here include vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings. After a night listening to the ocean’s waves, wake up and hike the Waterfall Grove Trail or head to Jabberwocky Meadow to picnic amid wildflowers.
