Located on the far east side of Hill Country, the Comanche Bluff Campground offers overnight stays close to some rough and rewarding hiking trails and the refreshing West Verde Creek.

The three campsites here are technically walk-ins, but they’re only 25 yards from the parking lot, so it won’t be hard hauling out your stuff. Count on finding a picnic table and fire ring at your site, with vault toilet access nearby. ###

Overview

Biking

Undeveloped and rugged, the trails within Hill Country State Natural Area are perfect for a weekend getaway in the wilderness. The 40 miles of multi-use trails wind through hills, meadows, valleys, and limestone cliffs, gaining nearly 2,000 feet in elevation. And if you’re in for a bike-to-camp adventure, there are several primitive campsites to choose from within the park.

Fishing

Be sure to check the water levels before planning a fishing trip here... Fishing may not be available due to the varying climate.

Hiking

Backpackers and day hikers alike love the 40 miles of trails in Hill Country State Natural Area. Scale steep limestone cliffs and cross streams before finding solace at one of several primitive campsites, or simply spend the day exploring the trails. Don’t forget to pack extra water during the hot summer months!

Horseback riding

Equestrians can’t get enough of Hill Country State Park because of it’s back-to-basics wilderness trails. We think your horse will appreciate them, too! With 40 miles to cover, you’ve got plenty of space to spread out and take your time. Primitive campsites are also available if you’d like to tough it in the woods for a night or two. Well water for the horses is available, but potable water is not, so be sure to bring your own!

Swimming

Be sure to check the water levels before packing your car with floaties... Swimming and fishing may not be available due to the varying climate.
