Discover the most magical spots to pitch your tent or park your rig on your next Fahnestock State Park adventure.
Whether on the water or on the trails, this NY park is the perfect setting for adventure.
In the wooded hills of northern Putnam County, on the east side of the Hudson Highlands, Fahnestock State Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. With a large beach on Canopus Lake, access to two lakes and four ponds, and plenty of trails, there are endless opportunities for adventures, from hiking to birding and boating. Anglers can also fish for smallmouth bass, perch, pickerel, and rainbow trout year-round. The park’s seasonal Fahnestock State Park Campground has 80 sites for tents, campers, and RVs.
Spring and summer are the busiest seasons and the best times for enjoying paddling and swimming in the water, but fall and winter have their own appeal. The park’s lush foliage explodes into rich colors in fall, which is also the ideal time for tackling the park’s hiking trails without overheating. Various winter sports can be enjoyed, including cross-country skiing and snowshoeing along 13 miles of trails in the seasonal Fahnestock Winter Park.
