This primitive Tent/RV site offers: 2-Private Acres + FREE Firewood + 8-foot Industrial Picnic Table + Little Tikes Picnic Table + Commercial-Grade Port-A-Potty + Large Garbage Bin + 5-Gallon Bucket + Adirondack/Sitting Chairs + Pet Friendly! Solo travelers, families, and romantic getaway travelers: This is a very private and safe place to camp! Because we only have 1 site, you will be alone in the space the entire time. My family lives on the premises so we are here in case of an emergency. My daughter and I own this 35 acre secluded piece of heaven just minutes from Winston-Salem, Hanging Rock State Park, and other attractions. We are pet friendly (if your pet does not play well with our dogs or horses, please leave them on a leash or at home). Our Shire horses are endangered and very BIG! We hope you have time to say hello to the horses during your visit. NOTE: we do NOT provide electric at the campsite; you are allowed to use a generator. NOTE: please remember to bring garbage bags for all of your trash. All trash must be bagged and deposited into the provided garbage bin.Welcome! You cannot see our home from the road. When you arrive, you will pull to the front of the house and I/we will greet you and give you your paperwork and information. You will drive past the house, down the hill, and park/camp in the Grassy Knoll. You are surrounded by trees on 3 sides and a creek on the 4th side. There is plenty of room for outdoor games (soccer, corn hole, Frisbee, badminton, croquet, etc.). The creek runs next to you. The creek is not real deep so it is perfect for kids to play in. Some have strung their hammocks across the creek and napped/read listening to the sound of the water running over the rocks. Others have sat our Adirondack chairs in the creek and soaked their feet while reading their latest book or watching their kids play. There are minnows and crayfish too. The horses will be grazing across the creek from you. Our horses are Shires! The Shire horse is a draft horse and listed as the tallest horse breed in the world. They are considered endangered. What to expect

You'll have this Hipcamp all to yourself.

Campfires allowed

Firewood provided, firepit, private. When you arrive, you will have plenty of twigs/kindling piled and ready for you to start a fire without trouble! You will always have plenty of dried logs sitting right next to the fire spot. We also have Adirondack chairs sitting by the fire for you to enjoy so you do not need to bring chairs to relax in! You have a 5-gallon bucket sitting next to the pile of logs so you may fill it with water and saturate the fire before you leave (safety first)! We provide a large outdoor chest filled with more twigs/kindling to help you start more fires later. There is plenty of wood so you may have a fire going the entire time you are here! ENJOY!

Toilet available

Flush toilet. There is a commercial grade portable toilet right at the entrance to the Grassy Knoll. You have access to this restroom 24 hours a day! This is a private portable toilet used only by your family during your visit!

Pets allowed

Off leash, on leash. If your pet is a runner, please keep it on a leash. WE HAVE A CAT so if your pet may harm our cat, DO NOT LET THEM OFF THE LEASH! We have 2 dogs; if your pet does not play well with others, do not let them off the leash. We have HORSES, if your pet might chase our horses, your pet needs to be on a leash! Actually, if your pet does not play well with others, please do not bring them onto our property! We are a happy place and intend to keep it that way! We have been asked to lock our animals up while you are camping because your dog is aggressive - THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN! DO NOT bring your dog if it is aggressive!

Potable water available

Spigot, hose. You may use the hose located on the side of the garage attached to the house. The house is less than a football field distance from your secluded campsite. You drove right by it when you entered the Grassy Knoll.

Bins available

Recycling bin, trash bin. We have provided you with a large trash bin right at your site. PLEASE be respectful and put all your trash in this bin! We do NOT provide trash bags so please remember to bring your own trash bags. We have no problem taking your trash for you! Please separate your recycling and let us know so we can recycle for you!

Picnic table present

We have added an 8-foot industrial size picnic table. It is safe and sturdy. Be sure to bring cleaning items to clean up after your family if you choose to use the picnic table.

No showers

Bathe in river or stream. You are literally next to a flowing creek with some deep areas. We have bathed in it many times. It is hidden and glorious! We trust you will use biodegradable soap!

Dayla is the warmest and most welcoming host I have ever met! She was so kind and made sure to go the extra mile in every way so that our experience would be one for the memories. Great spot with complete privacy, pond to fish, horses to pet, a creek to bathe in and relax by, an open area for activities, a camp fire to sit and laugh around, wood to burn, and it’s in a great location. We hiked hanging rock and got ice cream that was DELICIOUS and spent the rest of the time on site laughing, worshipping and learning about the Lord, and making memories that will last a long time. Highly recommend and plan on going back soon!

As a single woman camper, I couldn’t feel any safer knowing I’m in the middle of a sprawling property, with host’s who are there for me, who understand the safety and peace desired. This is my 3rd or 4th visit and I’ll for sure be back. I love the privacy of the HipCamp with the horses just across the creek to go visit. I was surprised happily that they were recently (also surprise) donated some kittens. There were 3 kitties that became friends by the end. There’s also two dogs who may or may not interact. I enjoyed my visits with all the animals as well as lots of time on my own. The port a potty is convenient and potable water is available up a hill at the host’s home. I tent camped and enjoyed fires in the evenings with a ton of complimentary wood. It’s very quiet aside from a bit of street noise at peak times and maybe some mowing of the large property. Love this place.

It was a nice private peaceful place to tent camp. The sound of the creek was so relaxing. It was fun for my kids to meet the enormous horses. The porta potty was a little gross but I guess they usually are. The potable water from the house was a bit of a walk to get to so I recommend bringing some large gallon containers or something to carry the water from the spigot to the campsite.

A wonderful getaway

Absolutely beautiful property, majestic horses, kind hosts that offered endless wood, enough seating for all guests, they even helped us with our deflating tire. We also had a magical experience of a great blue heron flying extremely close overhead, twice! Unfortunately a tropical storm cut our stay short. Completely out of the hosts’ control, a freight train blared its horn for quite a while in the middle of the night we stayed as well as some street racing drivers revving their engines in the distance made sleeping a little difficult. Just thought light sleepers might want to be forewarned. We would absolutely go again and recommend them!

Everything about Dayla & Denae’s Grassy Knoll is perfect. The hosts are welcoming, kind, & easy to communicate with. The campsite truly felt cared for with their visitors in mind — an extremely clean port a potty, trash can on site, huge picnic table, beautiful firepit, dozens of chairs, and more dry firewood & kindling than you could ever need. We loved visiting their majestic shire horses & playing with their two sweet pups. The creek is refreshing and perfect to pop a chair in, and falling asleep to the sounds of water at night is just perfect. This is the best camping spot we’ve ever been to & can’t wait to return!

Beautiful, not as quiet or private

The spot was gorgeous. Walking barefoot on the moss was Divine; so was remaining still while a Great Heron decided it could trust me enough to walk past me about 15 feet in front of me. There were some obnoxiously loud cars/trucks up and down the first day and night, but not the second...maybe bc it was a holiday. A man on a lawn mower passed by 4 times; I was surprised bc the ad said I had the place to myself. They mowed for about 7 hours the first day i was there and began again at 8:45 a.m. the next day. I did message the owner and asked if there would be mowing all day. She apologized and stopped mowing so I appreciated that. That was no vacation for me...I was processing some very heavy stuff and I really needed privacy and quiet and I didn't get it the first day and had to ask for it the next. The spot was absolutely Divine though.

Best campsite we've found!!

This is, hands down, the best spot we've found using Hipcamp! The hosts are incredibly friendly and offer a ton of free firewood, a port-a-porty and garbage cans. The camping site is humongous and we enjoyed all the fish and crayfish in the creek. The bestest part is the 2 four legged puppers that hang out with you! We loved our stay soooo much, we will back many more times down the road!

I don't want to be cheesy, but my experience here was truly magical. Just tucked away enough to feel secluded but close enough to the hosts' house and civilization to feel safe. You're just across a small creek from the horse pastures. The horses were incredibly friendly with both me and my dog (who kept a curious but respectful distance.) The site itself was well prepped for guests and would be great for large groups but also felt perfectly private and peaceful for a single camper. Couldn't recommend enough!! Will be back!

We loved our stay at Kohler Farms! The campsite was absolutely beautiful—right along the creek, which provided the most peaceful background of babbling water all weekend long. The hosts were incredibly communicative and thoughtful, even covering the kindling so everything stayed dry for us. Tons of firewood was available, and the site itself felt private and well-kept. Their two farm dogs stopped by to say hello a couple of times and were so sweet with our pup—it was such a fun surprise. And wow, their shire horses are stunning! Seeing them up close was magical. The only thing to note is that you can hear some road traffic at night, but overall, this spot was serene and so worth it. We’d absolutely come back!

Our camping adventure did not go as planned this trip due to weather. We’ve stayed here a few times before and the hosts are always kind and welcoming. It was nice to see their older pup, Callie, again, and their new pup. Even with the mud from the rain it’s still a beautiful property. Look forward to a future trip.

The shire horses and creek to play in were a treat for the kids. Our group enjoyed the location and plan to return, hopefully when the assortment of Hostas are blooming. The Hipcamp description was accurate. Although it is near the highway and hosts residence where you can hear a truck every once an a while, the site is quite secluded. Nice flat open mowed grassy field for camping.

Great place to stay. The hosts are super friendly and ensured we had everything we needed. This is a great option if you want to visit Hanging Rock State Park but don’t want to stay at the campground there. This would be perfect for big families as well. There is plenty of open space to throw a football or a baseball. The creek is nice and isn’t very deep. I had good cell reception with Verizon. Stores are close if you need something as well. We had a great stay and will definitely return.

Another great camping trip to Kohler Farms on the books! We had colder than expected weather, rain, and a little mud but that did not stop us from having a great time. Sitting by the creek listening to the water trickle while watching the gorgeous horses directly across from it was so soothing and relaxing. This is one of our favorite spots. We are looking forward to coming back again.

What a special place! The farm is spacious and the two acre private camp ground has a fire pit, plenty of fire wood, a clean porta potty, chairs, table and peace in nature. The 4 horses are all love bugs and as a horse woman I surely enjoyed my visits with them on the other side of the creek. Dayla is a Gem and welcomed me, shared house rules and other tidbits and is available if needed right up the hill. A gem!

Had a great time tent camping here with my family! Perfect for 2 young kids with the creek, dogs and horses. Super private but also a lot to do nearby. Hosts were wonderful - didn’t hesitate to offer to help us out with a flat tire. We hope to make it back soon!
