This was the perfect place to stay. Loren and his wife were so nice and helpful. They also have a clubhouse for guests to use. Although, we didn’t use it, it had so many amenities. A restroom, shower, kitchen, and laundry room. They were also willing to help with any questions we had. I recommend this place to anyone.

What an amazing opportunity to be lost in the grasslands of Wyoming, with not a soul insight other than horses, prairie dogs, antelope and deer. Hiked up the hill in the morning and surprised two doe and two bucks who stared at me from fifteen feet until they hopped off. Water and electricity as advertised with nice flat spot for camper. A short ride into Sheridan which has a wonderful Main Street, and looking out at the Big Horn Mts as the sun sets. Couldn’t ask for more. Host very responsive to any questions!

Such a cute place! Lisa put a lot of love and effort into it. The shower and bathroom is new and just a short walk 30 sec walk from the cabin. The sounds of cows and nature was really beautiful at night. There is a train that runs several times in the night, earplugs might be helpful for those that are not used to trains. I only stayed one night but Lisa was very accommodating.

There was confusion on renting the RV site vs renting an RV. This needs to be made more clear in the description. As far as everything else goes, I would gladly stay here again. It was close to the music festival, (within biking distance) and a nice level concrete pad to park the van on. I have also looked into purchasing a spot here because it is such a lovely space and area!

About
Traveling between Yellowstone National Park and Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a classic American road trip which happens to include a scenic drive through Bighorn National Forest, whether you take the Bighorn Scenic Byway, the Cloud Peak Skyway, or the more adventurous Medicine Wheel Passage. Covering over a million acres of northern Wyoming, this national forest is named for the towering peaks of the Bighorn Mountains, considered a sister range to the Rocky Mountains. Nearly 30 campgrounds offer a range of amenities and scenic backdrops for outdoor adventures. Dispersed camping is also allowed. You could find yourself waking up to views of wildflower-filled meadows, alpine lakes and rippling streams, or shaded woodlands.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for tree huggers: The towering pines of Middle Fork Campground provide ample shade, while the babbling creek adds to the serenity.
- Best for RVers: Electric hookups are hard to find in Bighorn National Forest campgrounds, but Sibley Lake Campground has over a dozen sites with them! Reserve early for the best chances.
- Best for roomy campsites: The large campsites at Sitting Bull Campground earn high marks. Plus, with over 40 available, you may have good luck snagging one.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- Bighorn National Forest has a mix of reservable and first-come-first-served campsites and campgrounds.
- Reservations may be made online at Recreation.gov or by phone at 1-877-444-6777.
- Most reservations open six months in advance on a rolling basis.
- Reservations are recommended for weekends and holidays during peak seasons, though first-come, first-served sites may be available.
- Some campgrounds stay open throughout the year, while others close for winter and, possibly, fall.
When to go
Weather conditions vary greatly by elevation and season in the Bighorns. The summer season is busiest, thanks to the moderate temperatures, especially at higher elevations, creating good conditions for outdoor recreation. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible from fall through winter and stretching into the spring, and higher elevations may have snow on the ground and roadways heading into summer.

We've never had a bad experience at Boulder Park. The host is adorable, fellow campers are friendly, and the sites and amenities are lovingly maintained. Lots of hiking and climbing areas nearby, and a super peaceful place for those that just want to relax with a book. One of our favorites.

Excellent campsites situated right along the creek. The campground is in a wooded steep canyon so shade is no problem. Keep an eye on weather conditions - being high in the mountains means it can change somewhat rapidly. A walk on the road past the campground takes you by some residences and beautiful mountain cabins on private land, and eventually to an alpine lake that (I was told) moose frequent to quench their thirst.
