Merriwoola is a property of outstanding natural beauty and offers guests a sanctuary from the world surrounded by parkland bush, mysterious boulders resting amongst the trees and numerous native animals including wombats, echidnas, kanagroos, wallabies, possums, koala and the most extraordinary birdlife. The property is defined by an ancient water course that cuts a 1km ravine through the property. During the winter the dry boulder-strewn gorge is transformed with waterfalls and cascades along its length and regardless of the season transports you to another time and place. There is limited solar power (enough for phones and laptops) and low flow water (enough to brush your teeth). Neither is guaranteed to be available. A wood stove heats the hut, boils the kettle and cooks your dinner; firewood is included. An open outdoor bathroom includes a sink, bath and drop toilet. Hot water is available but not promised. The hut is fenced and well-behaved dogs are welcome. This property is suited to resourceful guests who are familiar with lighting fires, swinging an axe and understanding rural courtesies. The abundance of wildlife is used to peace so if you are taking a dog with you then please keep it within eyesight and always under your control. Please also consider that the mobs of kangaroos that roam the property include some large bucks (boomers) that can be confrontational if surprised so please proceed with caution if approaching grazing animals. This property is a true retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life; where the silence is complete, the night sky deep and the stars bright. The property is mostly wooded with outstanding natural features including creeks and waterfalls (dry in summer), stunning views of the surrounding countryside, an extraordinary variety of wildflowers including orchids and huge granite monoliths throughout the property synonymous with Nulla Vale. Loved our stay here! Peter was super accommodating and provided lots of info before and during the stay so everything was seamless. Heaps of space and a beautiful spot. The house was a nice touch to have an indoor spot to cook and space where some of us slept. Would return again!

Tranquil & private
We enjoyed the tranquility & privacy at Merriwoola. The hut was comfortable, warm and cosy with a kitchen well appointed with crockery, large esky & cooking equipment. The surrounding nature on the property was really interesting for long walks with big boulders, wildflowers, wombat burrows & kangaroos.

Amazing !!!
Group trip
Very very private, had a lovely time with a big group of people. Lots to explore. Not a lot of privacy within the house but that just added to the adventure. Would 100% come back

With kids
My son and I enjoyed staying on Peter’s land so much. It’s absolutely beautiful, and very peaceful. We loved making the walk down to the little stream to cool off, and the hut was perfectly basic but had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was great that we could bring our little dog. A precious break from our busy lives.

rustic weekender hut
With kids
This is a great little hut north of Lancefield. The creek to the west of the hut is excellent for kids to splash and explore in and there is plenty of land for them to run about in, collect kindling and bird spot.
