An absolute gem. We stayed for the first two days of the 2025 season in a water's edge powered site.
Couple with dog. 2wd/4wd accessible.
Mt. Surround Campgrounds: Exceptionally well presented grounds, very tidy, spacious relatively flat sites across the vast majority of the grounds. Seasonal creek flowing into the dam/lake. Facilities were very well presented and welcoming/clean smelling (former commercial government cleaner here).
Nature interactions include a resident Goanna/Monitor, a horse, numerous cattle, abundant birdlife and water species, kangaroos/wallabies, several duck species and two very casual tree snakes that loved chilling out in a couple of site's overhead and surrounding trees.
The campground is quite spacious and whilst staying we could barely hear any discernable sound from surrounding campsites and the highway which is several hundred metres away on the other side of the dam/lake.
The dam/lake offers an array of nature watching activities and also reasonably accessible for water based activities. This time of year (January) the dam is quite deep in points and although weeded at the water's edge has accessible points. Depth varies from a few feet to probably metres in the middle. The lake had previously (according to returning campers) catered to powered water activities like skiing, but I cannot comment as to if this is currently acceptable. I do suggest a kayak or SUP, as the dam/lake is massive. Daily quite time between 10pm and 7am.
