About the property: Trembling Gardens is my 10 acre swamp camp paradise in the rural suburb of Rice Lake. I am currently developing the land as a personal off-grid vacation home with a tent cabin under construction. The property is less than 20 minutes away from downtown Duluth and Canal Park. “Oh the swamp is a mystical place all right. It's sacred. You think you're any different from me or your friends or this tree? If you listen hard enough, you can hear every living thing breathing together. You can feel everything growing. We're all living together, even if most folks don't act like it. We all have the same roots and we are all branches of the same tree. In the swamp, we see visions of people we've lost, people we loved, folks we think are gone. But the swamp tells us they're not. We're still connected to them. Time is an illusion and so is death.” -Avatar, The Last Airbender, Book Two: Earth, Chapter 4: The Swamp

Camp Palustria
The owner did warn us, but in late summer, the path was quite overgrown and difficult to find. The boardwalk did need some repairs. Overall, this is more private than a public campground, but we could hear a lot of road noise and people in the distance of neighboring properties. The toilet area wasn't well stocked as animals had torn up the toilet paper.

Camp Palustria
We loved the primitive camp set up the hik into the campsite was easy and self explanatory although the PDF map the host provides is extremely helpful if you're struggling figuring it out ! Will definitely be back.

Camp Palustria
Very quirky and remote site. Fun entering off side of road and walking on the boardwalks. Site super super private and well put together and maintained. Very unique way to stay in Duluth!

Camp Palustria
Poorly maintained
While the location of the campsite is fantastic, the site is in need of some maintenance. The foliage along the walk-in trail is very thick, the table at the campsite is missing a leg, the fire pit wasn't dug out, and the outhouse was in need of cleaning. I would not recommend this campsite given its current state.

Camp Palustria
Low key spot just outside of Duluth. We were in town for one night and decided to camp. If you have mobility concerns this is not the camp for you, the hike to the spot is not long but the boardwalk is unstable at points. Good spot if you don’t mind a little work to make camp.
