Retreat to Granite Springs Farmstay

6 sites · RVs, Tents80 acres · Chiltern, VIC
Situated in the beautiful locale of Chiltern in northeast Victoria, Granite Springs is located on 80 flat acres with underlying springs and a creek running through the property, and it’s very conveniently situated just a few minutes off the Hume Highway! You can choose to camp privately amongst the native trees or next to the big pond- sit on the jetty and take in the birds, trees and wild life, have a swim to cool down on hot days, toast marshmallows around a campfire, walk along the creek that runs through the property, or just sit by the little waterfall with your feet in the water listening to the water gurgling through the granite stones and allow the stress of life to drift away. Want to go trail riding? Book a site next to the horse safe yards so that you can bring your horse for a weekend of trail riding in the nearby plantations which adjoin the Mount Pilot National Park. Or if trail riding isn’t your thing, you can choose to hire the arena and round yard, or maybe have a lesson with the onsite coach (subject to availability) Or if you prefer, you can participate in a true farm stay experience! Stay near the original farmhouse, choose a powered site, book a Meet, Greet & Feed tour and join us on a feed run to feed the horses, cows, sheep, goats, chickens and guinea fowl, enjoy watching the baby animals frolicking (depending on when you stay), get up close and personal to pat and feed some of the animals, collect the eggs, see the dairy goats being milked; and if you wish you can book in to partake in an evening bbq meal with us on the deck and enjoy an evening filled with great food, hospitality and laughter. Should you wish to make it an even deeper experience, you could book in for a reiki session with a qualified and accredited Reiki Master (with or without the animals assisting!) or an Equine Assisted Transformation session... this is the perfect location for those who are energy sensitive and who wish to deepen their connection with the land, nature and themselves, or who feel the need for some healing or clearing work. If you wish, you may pre-order a basket filled with a selection of local produce and goodies for your stay (please note that we require 48 hours notice on some basket selections) So many choices, and you can mix and match to create your perfect camping getaway with as much or as little interaction with the animals or other people as you wish to experience! You can even bring your own 4 legged friends- well behaved dogs are welcome provided they are kept restrained at all times. Less than 3 hours drive from Melbourne, the property is conveniently located within minutes of local shops and Chiltern- Mount Pilot National Park, 10 minutes from the popular town of Rutherglen, 20 minutes from the Murray River, Beechworth and Corowa, 25 minutes from Wangaratta and Albury-Wodonga, 40 minutes from Mount Buffalo… this is a popular location to strike out into the high country from and is very popular with cyclists, hikers and nature enthusiasts alike. Hiking, cycling, nature watching, birdwatching, visiting local sites to see Aboriginal Art, panning for gold at local rivers, berry picking at nearby farms, trail riding… there is so much to do and explore in the local area! Or just come to relax, recharge your batteries and spend some time quality time reconnecting with yourself and/or loved ones Please note: * At this stage, you will need to be fully self contained with your own cooking facilities, toilet, shower and potable water for most of the sites. Communal toilet and shower options will be available in the near future. * Some of the camp sites are 4WD ACCESS ONLY for camper trailers and caravans, and some are inaccessible in wet weather except by 4WD vehicle or walk in. If you are unsure which site will be suitable for you, don’t hesitate to contact us before booking to discuss your needs. If you have a tent you will be able to park your vehicle off the street and walk approx. 500m to your campsite, or if you can’t walk contact us to arrange to be transported there via 4WD or buggy. *There will be some areas that you cannot go on the property due to animals being housed there, and electric fencing is used throughout the property. So please read and follow the signs, stick to the areas designated for public use, always use the gates (and if you open a gate, please close it behind you) and be mindful of the fences. If in doubt, DON’T touch the fence! Or if you do, make sure someone is videoing it and please post it on the Facebook page!! NB- If you would like to explore, then please book a farm tour with us to see the whole property and experience meeting the animals up close and personal. * Campfires in the designated fire pits are welcome, but ARE NOT permitted on days of high fire risk or Total Fire Ban days. You may collect twigs and branches from the ground, but please don’t break or cut branches off trees. Bags of pre-cut wood are available to purchase as an extra or upon request. Please ensure that all fires are completely out before leaving them unattended. * While we welcome your furry family members, we do require them to be well behaved and on a lead at all times. We have a zero tolerance policy for dogs chasing farm animals or being excessively disruptive, and any such behaviour will result in you forfeiting your payment and being asked to leave immediately. You are welcome to walk your dog on lead throughout the designated public areas on the property and along the roadside and surrounding trails. If you wish to visit local areas where dogs can’t be taken, you can book your furry friend in to be dog-sat here on the property while you go out exploring. * As this is a farm, and is surrounded by other farms, there may be farm noises like dogs barking, sheep baa-ing , cows moo-ing, horses neighing, Guinea fowl squawking, and/or Belle the Needy Noisy Nubian Dairy Goat calling for her feed (or rug if it’s cold!) We endeavour to provide a peaceful environment, and this is generally a lovely quiet location which more than fulfils our own personal requirements for an undisturbed lifestyle, and will no doubt do so for the vast majority of campers. But we can’t guarantee it will always be completely silent during the day or at night- especially if the lambs or calves or foals are being weaned from their mothers! Ear plugs are available for light sleepers if required. And if you are an extremely noise sensitive person or someone who wants a private camping experience with no noise or neighbouring houses visible, this may not be the right spot for you (if this is you, we would recommend looking for a more remote stay on a large acreage which will provide you with a more private experience) * And while on the topic- if partying late into the night with loud music, a thumping base on your sound system and extremely raucous singing and laughter is your thing, then this is not the right camping spot for you. While we are all for socialising and having fun, if you want to party loudly into the wee hours we would suggest finding a camping spot far away from neighbouring properties where the sound doesn’t carry for miles across the land. Please be mindful of us, our neighbours and others nearby who may be trying to relax or sleep, and keep noise to a respectful level after the sun has set. TIA for your understanding * We want your stay to be relaxing and enjoyable, so please contact us if you need anything or have any issues and we will be happy to help in whatever way we can :)

The Witches Garden on the Mitta Mitta River

3 sites · RVs, Tents110 acres · Mitta Mitta, VIC
Our Mitta River and Callaghan Creek unpowered campsites are along waterways where there is access to the water. Not far from these camp sites is our garden which we open to the public for weddings and events. The gardens are very extensive and beautiful and there are chooks and a large vegie garden and in season (usually summer and autumn) we have excess veg available to campers. We also have chooks and farm animals so dogs must be kept under control. Our area has very little mobile phone coverage but if you are with Telstra you will be fine as there is a Telstra tower not far away. On Callaghan Creek Road we have a peaceful camping spot by the creek. This is in a secluded and very pretty spot on our farm. 4 wheel drive needed as you will be driving across paddocks and down a short steep hill to the creek. Off-road caravan friendly. Children welcome but must be supervised at all times (farms can be dangerous) Well behaved dogs on lead are allowed. No amenities campers must have own camping toilet and be self-contained.

Camping near Albury guide

Overview

As the largest town along the Murray River, Albury is well placed for exploring the rural heartlands of both New South Wales and Victoria. Take to the water to swim, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard, dive into the city’s food scene, and browse the markets, or take a day trip to the Rutherglen wine region. Outdoor adventurers have lakes, wetlands, state forests, and national parks within easy reach, all with a backdrop of the Snowy Mountains. Park your caravan at one of the many waterfront campsites and tourist parks, or escape the crowds at free camping areas in the surrounding reserves.

Where to go

Along the Murray River

The mighty Murray River—Australia’s longest river—flows along the border of NSW and Victoria. Cross over to explore Albury’s twin town, Wodonga, on the south shore, or head east to hike and camp in Woomargama National Park. Bird-watchers will find several destinations of note along the riverside, including the Chiltern National Park and the Wonga Wetlands, or you could take in the sights from the water on a paddle-steamer cruise or canoe excursion.

Around Lake Huma

Just east of Albury, the huge Huma Dam, and Lake Huma lie along the Murray River. Check into one of the lakeside resorts, pitch your tent along the waterfront, or try your luck fishing for Murray cod and rainbow trout. Walking and cycling trails circle the lake or take to the water for a boat cruise or kayak excursion.

Riverina

Albury lies on the southern edge of the Riverina, where sloping vineyards and fruit orchards line the lakes and waterways of the Murrumbidgee River. Enjoy swimming and water sports at the riverside beaches, visit towns like Wagga Wagga and Griffith, and stay at scenic riverfront camping grounds. This is the ideal region for a road trip, stopping to enjoy wine tasting and dine at country pubs along the way.

When to go

Albury’s distinct seasons mean many travelers choose to return again and again. Summer (December through February) is peak season and the best time for swimming and water sports—book your campsite well in advance as they can fill up quickly. The forest parks and valleys around Albury are ablaze with color come autumn, while winter visitors can escape to the Snowy Mountains ski resorts.

Know before you go

  • Albury is well connected by public transport, but having your own vehicle is useful for exploring.
  • Albury has a large selection of shops where you can pick up camping gear and stock up on supplies.
  • Free camping areas in New South Wales are for fully self-sufficient campers only. There is public water access, a dump station, and a rubbish disposal site in Albury.
  • Fire bans are common in New South Wales during summer and dry periods, so be sure to check local recommendations before lighting a campfire and always use designated fire pits.
