This 30 acre property has been in the family for over 35 years and is where I lived my childhood. Now we are running a self-funded Horse Sanctuary and offering camping in a rural setting just a 2.5km drive from the township of Lowood. Our Land for Wildlife registered property has over 30 species of birdlife and many native animals including kangaroos, koalas and echidna. Stunning sunrises and sunsets and all within walking distance of Lowood shops along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail which stretches for nearly 1km along the boundary. Situated halfway between Fernvale and Coominya makes this an ideal stop on your BVRT adventure or is ideal for a quick getaway being only an hour or so from Brisbane CBD. There are 2 sites which are private from each other. ++ The property is accessed by a rough dirt track that is 4wd accessible after heavy or prolonged rainfall due to wet muddy ruts ++ ^^ You must be self-sufficient and bring your own portable toilet/bucket toilet, and all waste and rubbish must be taken with you ^^ ** Please consider a donation to our horse sanctuary - even the smallest amounts help towards horse feed, vet visits and general care 🐴🐎 Many of our beautiful four hooved family would not be alive without people like us who come to their rescue **

Max's Farm

5 sites · RVs, Tents116 acres · Conondale, QLD
Harper Creek Road and Harper Creek criss cross one another as you drive through the valley. The ridges either side of the road are largely timbered, whereas the valley floor is productive land. The large property is located towards the end of this no-through-road, almost at the end of the line. While the property has dual access from both Engle Rd at the top & Harper Creek Rd, we enter from the valley. Camping on the top block is also available for 4WD vehicles only and not suited to large caravans. Campers are required to be self-contained with their own toilet/shower facilities and must take all waste and rubbish with them on departure. Campfires are welcome in the fire pits with firewood provided or BYO. The mid-1900’s cottage sits in an idyllic setting, framed by the trees. The cottage is not yet available for Farm stays but will be soon. The location, vegetation and topography provide the privacy, the fauna & birdlife (the Bellbirds) combine to provide the solitude. Harper Creek cuts through the front corner of the property where it is met by a minor creek that drains the high country. You want more … how about a total of 115 acres (46.42 ha). While it is predominantly well-treed, it does have some cleared camping opportunities. It is watered by the creeks and one dam. There’s a great camping site at the top of the block, with a fantastic view! The property is off Aherns Rd, close to the village of Conondale and mid-way between Maleny & Kenilworth. With good access to the freeway via either Maleny or Kenilworth.… a perfect bush camping spot in a perfect setting! Pets welcome, please ensure they are kept under control and picked up after.

Camping near Glass House Mountains with climbing guide

Overview

Soaring craggy peaks and forest-swaddled hinterlands make up the postcard landscapes of the Glass House Mountains, and the eponymous town is the gateway to the storied peaks. Head into the Glass House Mountains National Park, where you can hike around Mount Tibrogargan, summit Mount Ngungun, and go rock climbing, abseiling, horseback riding, and mountain biking. There are no public campgrounds in the town itself, but campers can take their pick of Hipcamps, from farm stays to cosy cabins or simple bush camping. For larger motorhomes and campervans, nearby Beerwah Caravan Park has powered sites and full amenities.

Where to go

Sunshine Coast Hinterlands

The Steve Irwin Way winds its way north of Glass House Mountains into the Sunshine Coast Hinterlands, where the rolling countryside is dotted with lively towns, foodie hotspots, and national parks. Swing by Australia Zoo for a wildlife experience, then take a road trip to visit the market towns of Maleny and Kenilworth or hike the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk through Mapleton Falls National Park. Campers have a choice of holiday parks, glamping getaways, and creek-side camping at Conondale National Park.

Beerburrum and Beerwah State Forests

Swathes of pine and eucalypt forests surround the Glass House Mountains, affording miles of trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. There’s no camping in the Beerburrum State Forest, but Coochin Creek campground in the Beerwah State Forest has sites suitable for campervans and camper trailers, and there’s bush camping at D’Aguilar National Park, further south.

Bribie Island

Between Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast, cross the bridge to Bribie Island for a beachside getaway complete with white-sand beaches, surf spots, and a national park. Bribie Island National Park is the undisputed highlight, where you can admire the ocean views on a beach drive (4WDs only!), spot kangaroos, emus, and other wildlife, and go bush camping right by the beach.

When to go

With slightly cooler temperatures than the coast, escaping to the hinterlands can offer welcome relief for campers in the summer months. Alternatively, autumn and winter are ideal for hiking and outdoor activities in the Glass House Mountains. Not only is the weather typically warm and dry, but the clear skies provide even better views from the mountaintops.
