Hunchy Hills 4WD Bush Camping

Formally a banana & pineapple plantation, Hunchy Hills is strictly 4WD only access property. We offer two types of camping; bush sites and a Camping Pod. There is a toilet and gas hot shower included. If you have a camper trailer it needs to be off-road/high clearance and you need to be experienced in towing off road. We cannot accept caravans/hybrids of any size or type. Sites 1-3 are large level pads approx. 12M by 12M, each with their own fire pit (please do not damage or move the bricks) and log seat. Site 4 is perched on the side of the hill and 6M by 6M in size. Suitable for vehicle based campers/swags/small tents with a sense of adventure and best with max 2 people. We have a backup spot too if access is too difficult. Pets (on leash) are welcome, please ensure you pick up after them. Number of guests for bookings is for total adults (16 and over). Kids (15 and under) are free and are not counted in the maximum number of guests. Firewood is sold at the check-in via an honesty box. $20 per bag (22kgs approx.) or add on to your booking for $22ea. Travel down the gravel road for about half a km and pop out through a tree tunnel to a secluded 2 acre cleared grassy paddock where the toilet & sites 1-3 are situated. Site 4 is on top of a small hill separate to the main camping area. The Pod is in its own cleared paddock, looking out to bush. Site 1 is in shade in winter and partial sun in summer. Go fishing at Baroon Pocket Dam and have a swim at Obi Obi Creek or Kondalilla. If you're after some saltwater it's a 30 min drive to most beaches on the coast.

Come and Camp at Noosa Equestrian Centre, a 188 acre property in the heart of the Noosa regions, with lush greenery and a peaceful tree lined creek. The perfect campsite for relaxing days spent in the beautiful hinterland, with Noosa beaches and shops just over the hill. The property offers 80 powered sites and 50 unpowered sites, at various locations around the property, some closer to the creek-line than others. All sites are ideal for pulling up stumps for a few days or more, enjoying the stunning, peaceful property and exploring the wider area. All campers have access the the amenities blocks (hot showers and flushing toilets!), located a couple of hundred metres from camp, depending where you set up, as well as a dump point for those who are self-contained. At this time, whilst campfires are permitted, you must bring your own firepit/brazier or similar and it must be elevated from the ground. Firewood BYO. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a lead - we have many horses around! Sites will be allocated on arrival in discussion with you, based on your set up.

Please note that Porfiri Road (in places) does not do well after heavy rains! Motor-homes cannot make the drive (regardless of the weather) and low profile sedans will struggle - AWD and 4x4 no problems. Vehicles with lift will have no problems. Our farm features bush and cleared areas on undulating hills. We are 100% off grid with fresh drinkable borehole water The campsite has lovely green grass, access to the pool and a picnic table, and fire pit. Compost toilet, hot bush shower and rubbish/recycling facilities. We are a small hobby farm with Bee Hives, Dogs, Cats, Chickens (a few roosters) horses, cows and a couple of pet pigs. We are located just 35 mins from Caloundra and 45 from Maroochydore. We are close to Australia Zoo, Ewen Maddock Dam, Maleny and Glasshouse Mountains. Enjoy mountain walks and cycling. Crystal Waters Cabin is a cosy, private, renovated cabin nestled in the heart of Crystal Waters Eco Village. Set amongst an abundance of native wildlife, the Cabin is the perfect place to relax and unwind or get out and explore the surrounding natural beauty. 'Crystal Waters Cabin' is one of the original dwellings built on the Crystal Waters Eco Village community, it was built back in 1980 in the 'hippie commune' days, but Crystal Waters has since evolved into a thriving 'Eco-Village' community. The Cabin gradually fell into a state of disrepair in the 2000's but has now been lovingly restored and renovated to both maintain its original rustic character while also incorporating all of the modern comforts and conveniences. The Cabin is one large studio style room that is divided into two separate spaces - combined kitchen/dining and bedroom/lounge. There is one queen bed and a comfy pull out sofa bed that is suitable for up to two young children as long as they don't mind sharing! The Cabin has a full cook's kitchen including fridge, gas stove and oven and dishwasher. There is a large north facing deck and a covered patio that opens out onto a large flat paddock, surrounded on all sides by pristine native forest. The Cabin has a beautiful outdoor bathroom with instant gas hot water, the shower looks out into the lush gardens but also affords total privacy. Crystal Waters is the perfect place to take a break from technology, having little or no mobile phone service on the property, however, with the flick of a switch you have wifi in the Cabin to use your devices and there is a wall mounted 40 inch flat screen smart TV with Netflix, etc. Crystal Waters is a prolific and thriving wildlife retreat and the Cabin is surrounded by an abundance of native animals and birds. Watch as the local mobs of kangaroos and wallabies graze at your doorstep every day and awake in the morning to a beautiful chorus of birdsong.

Glamping near Glass House Mountains guide

Overview

Soaring craggy peaks and forest-swaddled hinterlands make up the postcard landscapes of the Glass House Mountains, and the eponymous town is the gateway to the storied peaks. Head into the Glass House Mountains National Park, where you can hike around Mount Tibrogargan, summit Mount Ngungun, and go rock climbing, abseiling, horseback riding, and mountain biking. There are no public campgrounds in the town itself, but campers can take their pick of Hipcamps, from farm stays to cosy cabins or simple bush camping. For larger motorhomes and campervans, nearby Beerwah Caravan Park has powered sites and full amenities.

Where to go

Sunshine Coast Hinterlands

The Steve Irwin Way winds its way north of Glass House Mountains into the Sunshine Coast Hinterlands, where the rolling countryside is dotted with lively towns, foodie hotspots, and national parks. Swing by Australia Zoo for a wildlife experience, then take a road trip to visit the market towns of Maleny and Kenilworth or hike the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk through Mapleton Falls National Park. Campers have a choice of holiday parks, glamping getaways, and creek-side camping at Conondale National Park.

Beerburrum and Beerwah State Forests

Swathes of pine and eucalypt forests surround the Glass House Mountains, affording miles of trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. There’s no camping in the Beerburrum State Forest, but Coochin Creek campground in the Beerwah State Forest has sites suitable for campervans and camper trailers, and there’s bush camping at D’Aguilar National Park, further south.

Bribie Island

Between Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast, cross the bridge to Bribie Island for a beachside getaway complete with white-sand beaches, surf spots, and a national park. Bribie Island National Park is the undisputed highlight, where you can admire the ocean views on a beach drive (4WDs only!), spot kangaroos, emus, and other wildlife, and go bush camping right by the beach.

When to go

With slightly cooler temperatures than the coast, escaping to the hinterlands can offer welcome relief for campers in the summer months. Alternatively, autumn and winter are ideal for hiking and outdoor activities in the Glass House Mountains. Not only is the weather typically warm and dry, but the clear skies provide even better views from the mountaintops.
