The Bush Clinic, Hinterland Retreat

28 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents100 acres · Flying Fox, QLD
Our sites are completely isolated from town, with views and not visible from the road. Sites are set among nearly 100 acres of a mix of open land and rainforest. Multiple natural springs exist on the property and a few small spring-fed waterholes are scattered down the cascading hills. Friendly ducks, geese, fish, horses and an abundance of native wildlife live here. This location is home to several endangered species due to being one of the last isolated pockets of rainforest in the area. Sites are part of The Bush Clinic where we specialise in designing and making natural creams, soaps, teas, dodorants and other products as well as running regular Meditation courses and topics such as Energy, Frequency, Grounding and Advanced Organic Growth techniques for those wanting to join in are formally available during your stay. We are new to HipCamp so have limited facilities at present, but they are in progress and we have loads of space per site, comfortable, and lots to offer for those wanting to reconnect with Nature. If you know what ley-lines are - this is the right place to visit ;-) PS if you are towing a van or camper pls remember to engage 4wd at the front gravel gate (low range 2nd is best). This helps avoid chewing the road up...

Quails Ridge Farm Stay

4 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents22 acres · Beerwah, QLD
For the festive season we have made all check in times 2pm and check out 10am - please ask for a late check out if needed and depending on bookings we could maybe accommodate a late check out. December, January and February are our hottest months so please remember we are 100% off grid with only fans and the pool to keep cool and fresh - no portable AirCons available as our solar battery system cannot handle it - unless you provide your own generator and portable AC for the bedroom. Please note that Porfiri Road (in places) does not do well after heavy rains! Motor-homes cannot make the drive (regardless of the weather) and small low profile sedans and hatchbacks will struggle - AWD and 4x4 no problems. Vehicles with lift will have no problems. Our farm features bush and cleared areas on undulating hills. We are 100% off grid with fresh drinkable borehole water The campsite has lovely green grass, access to the pool and a picnic table, and fire pit. Compost toilet, hot bush shower and rubbish/recycling facilities. We are a small hobby farm with Bee Hives, Dogs, Cats, Chickens (a few roosters) horses, cows and a couple of pet pigs. We are located just 35 mins from Caloundra and 45 from Maroochydore. We are close to Australia Zoo, Ewen Maddock Dam, Maleny and Glasshouse Mountains. Enjoy mountain walks and cycling. Please note that Quails Ridge is also home to Diggers Rest - A Soldiers Retreat and should you be a Veteran or a currently serving member of the ADF - please book through admin@diggersrest.org.au attaching a copy of your DVA Card or stating your service number. Thank you for considering booking with us :-)

Lowood Nature Camp

3 sites · RVs, Tents30 acres · Lowood, QLD
This 30 acre property has been in the family for over 35 years and is where I lived my childhood. Now we are running a self-funded Horse Sanctuary and offering camping in a rural setting just a 2.5km drive from the township of Lowood. Our Land for Wildlife registered property has over 30 species of birdlife and many native animals including kangaroos, koalas and echidna. Stunning sunrises and sunsets and all within walking distance of Lowood shops along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail which stretches for nearly 1km along the boundary. Situated halfway between Fernvale and Coominya makes this an ideal stop on your BVRT adventure or is ideal for a quick getaway being only an hour or so from Brisbane CBD. There are 2 sites which are private from each other. ++ The property is accessed by a rough dirt track that is 4wd accessible after heavy or prolonged rainfall due to wet muddy ruts ++ ^^ You must be self-sufficient and bring your own portable toilet/bucket toilet, and all waste and rubbish must be taken with you ^^ ** Please consider a donation to our horse sanctuary - even the smallest amounts help towards horse feed, vet visits and general care 🐴🐎 Many of our beautiful four hooved family would not be alive without people like us who come to their rescue **

Coominya Hobby Farm

20 sites · RVs, Tents5 acres · Coominya, QLD
Come and relax at your peaceful campsite while watching the animals graze. They are fed twice a day in drought conditions and your host can provide food for you to hand feed them. We have a flat 5 acres with a range of friendly well loved farm animals including dorper sheep, Muscovy ducks, chickens, turkeys, miniature pig (Splat) and horses if they aren't at other agistment. If you are lucky we may even have lambs, ducklings or chicks. Inside we have a couple of children's pythons that also are part of the attraction, just ask to see them. You will be pleasantly surprised, trust me. Young children need to be supervised around the animals and are encouraged to move slowly and not be too loud so they feel safe enough to come up for pats. We have an above ground swimming pool for guests to enjoy in the warmer months and lots of room to throw a footy around or what ever pleases you, as long as it doesn't disturb anyone else. Campfires are permitted when there are no restrictions in place. I have 20kg bags of firewood for $20 cash, just advise on arrival that you want some. I have fire pits here that you can move around to suit your campsite. There are no street lights out here, so remember to look up at night as the stars you can see are amazing. If you like to go spotlighting you may see a koala, possom, squirel glider, barn owls, flying foxes and other surprises. We now have a double flushing toilet block for your convinience. You are welcome to dispose of rubbish in my wheelie bin and I encourage recycling and there are old feed bags for 10 cent cans etc. We sometimes see koalas in our trees and along the rail trail, which is just a km down the road. We are also a few minutes drive to a spar supermarket, takeaway shop and local pub. There is a simple playground that we are always adding to in the middle paddock under the shady trees and the back paddock is our biggest open area and furthest from my house/toilets. There are no set camp sites and you can park where ever you please. Sorry, no dogs permitted. Most other pets are allowed but just be sure to ask before booking. If you are a horse person bring your electric fence and your horse will just be $10 extra per night to cover water costs. I have a 20 meter round yard here you are welcome to use. Wivenhoe Dam, Atkinson Dam and the Brisbane river are all nearby and I have a great local tourist magazine that I can give you on arrival. Esk is about 20 minutes away and is a beautiful little town with old buildings, cafes, boutiques and lovely scenery. The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail is a short klm down the road if you enjoy hiking, horse riding or bike riding. We really love sharing our blessings, animals and farm with other like minded people and love connecting with families and people. While we aren't too busy I'm happy for you to check in and out at any time, make your holiday longer. Just give me a message with a rough arrival time in case I'm not there. Check out our FB page too for lots of current updates about animals and the farm. We sell free range chook and duck or turkey eggs when they are available. $5 for chook eggs and $10 for duck or turkey eggs. Cash please. The $45 camp fee is our minimum camping fee, this covers 2 adults and 2 children, adults are $20 per night and children $5 per night. Hope to see you soon.

Camping near Brisbane with horseback riding guide

Overview

Riverside Brisbane, Australia's only sub-tropical capital city, is also one of the country's sunniest, with an average eight hours of sunshine each day. With weather this kind, you know camping is going to be fun, whether you're chasing the waves on the beach, heading up into the hills for some cool rainforest respite, or hanging offshore at one of the sand islands in Moreton Bay for some wild, off-road adventures. A highlight of any trip will be meeting the wildlife—you can hand feed wild dolphins on Moreton Island, camp with koalas on North Stradbroke, and walk with birds in the rainforest.

Where to go

Gold Coast Hinterland

A world away from the beaches and glitzy high rises of the Gold Coast, the lush hinterland is the green behind the gold. Lace up your hiking boots and hit the bushwalking trails in the World Heritage-listed rainforest of Lamington National Park and Tamborine Mountain.

The Scenic Rim

The mountainous backdrop to Brisbane is a largely untouched swathe of bushland and rainforest that belies the notion that a bustling metropolis is just a stone's throw away. A short drive through Mount Nebo and Mount Glorious along the Northbrook Parkway to the country towns of Kilcoy and Woodford takes you into a rugged wilderness with state forest and national park camping sites.

North Stradbroke Island

Keep your eyes on the trees if you're camping on "Straddie"—they're full of koalas. Opt for a luxe campsite or glamping at a beachside caravan park. Or, if you have 4WD, hit the sand to experience the dunes and the beach.

Moreton Island

The Brisbane River empties into the sea in Moreton Bay, a short ferry ride from the Brisbane CBD. Moreton Island, one of the largest sand islands in the world, is 38 kilometres long and 98% national park land. Five campgrounds and four bush camping areas sit along the beach, with almost every campsite offering a stunning water view.

When to go

It's warm enough for short sleeves and swimming almost all year in Brisbane, although the mountain ranges tend to be a little cooler than the coast. Summer can be wet and stormy, and it rains a lot in the rainforest, so bring wet weather gear. Straddie is a popular spot with locals, so you'll need to book ahead during summer holidays.

Know before you go

  • If you’re towing a caravan or driving a large motorhome, be aware that some of the steep, narrow roads around Nerang and Canungra and in Lamington National Park are unsuitable for larger trailers.
  • All roads on Moreton Island are 4WD only, and all vehicles must have an access permit obtained from the state government.
  • Check the tide charts before driving on the beaches of North Stradbroke or Moreton Island, as the road tends to disappear as the tide rises.
  • Stradbroke Island ferries depart from Cleveland, while Moreton Island ferries leave from the Port of Brisbane.
