Camp near this peaceful suburban Newcastle locale with beach, dune, and wetland access nearby.
A northwestern suburb of Newcastle, Mayfield is a good camping option if you want to be close to the city without being in the thick of it. Campers can find simple tent sites, caravan parks, and more glam options in and around Mayfield, offering easy access to Newcastle’s beautiful beaches and ocean baths, the dramatic Stockton Sand Dunes and Worimi Conservation Lands, the Hunter Wetlands National Park, and the wine country of the Hunter Valley. Mayfield campsites typically have swimming pools or beach access and well-equipped kitchen facilities. Mayfield is also a handy option for an overnight or two on a road trip up or down the NSW coast, as it’s roughly halfway between Port Macquarie and Sydney (although a bit nearer the latter). Maitland and other smaller Hunter Valley settlements have plenty of camping options for travellers heading inland from Mayfield.
