Fossil Creek Campground
Description
In the middle of a dry and brittle desert hides a lush riparian area that is full of surprises. Fossil Creek is the centerpiece of this oasis, appearing from the bottom of a 1,600 foot canyon as if by magic. The calcium-laden waters have laid down huge deposits of travertine in the stream bed, encasing whatever happens to fall in the river with its rock-like shell. Swimming holes abound in Fossil Creek, as do really happy people who come to relax and frolic in the waters. Dispersed camping is plentiful, if a bit busy, but believe us when we say it’s well worth it!
