Under the Buckeye
in Where the Fairies Live, CaliforniaSite 3 - The Meadows of Isleton
in The Meadows at Isleton, CaliforniaI visited The Meadows of Isleton for two nights with my wife and two kids (age 7 and 1).
Our campsite had plenty of space to arrange our tent and other gear. We had campsite #3, which was just close enough to the portapotties but far enough that we didn't get much noise of people congregating at the restroom area. Not much road noise either. The campsite comes with a fire ring and a picnic table. The tree at our site was still small and didn't provide much shade, but I knew this ahead of time and brought my own canopy. It was very windy on the first day and night, so make sure you stake down your tent/canopy and know how to set up the guylines.
Mask use in the common areas is not required but it's quite easy to keep yourself socially distanced. Our kids had fun meeting other kids and exploring the grounds with them. Terri offers a tour of the farm on the weekends, and the kids got to feed the goats, chickens, and cows. They put coffee out in the mercantile area on weekend mornings, and use the honor system for picking up other goodies / bike rentals by leaving cash in a jar or Venmoing Terri.
The common areas were very cute and well-decorated. The sink is stocked with liquid soap but no paper towels, so bring your own towel. Portapotties are stocked with toilet paper and seat covers.
It was my 1-year-old's first time camping and she had a blast on the farm. We all did, and will definitely be back.
Modern Yurt with Vineyard Views
in The Rising Moon Yurt, CaliforniaRising moon = lowered stress
To say that my wife and I had an amazing stay at The Rising Moon Yurt would be an understatement. From the moment we pulled into the property, we could sense that Ashley & Justin had paid attention to every little detail of the experience. Here are just a few of the things that made it unforgettable: detailed written directions to get us to where Waze or Google Maps probably wouldn't; cute hand-painted signs at the gate; the greeting of quiet jazz as you walk through the door; the creature comforts of a fully-stocked kitchen with gas range and double sink; a hand-written note from the hosts with a hardcover yurt guide to answer any FAQs about the property; blazing-fast WiFi; smart TV with complementary Netflix; deep layback sofa with Woolrich & Pendleton blankets for getting cozy; queen-sized bed with nearby AC/heater; French doors leading to a serene and private balcony overlooking tree lines and farm fields; outdoor shower and bathtub with hot water; heated bathhouse with a sink dropped into a sawhorse table. The list goes on.
This was no ordinary glamping getaway: this was high-quality DIY resort treatment. For Ashley & Justin to put this much thought in the details makes you appreciate the fact that they have opened their home for others to share, to enjoy, to respect and keep clean, to fall in love with, to come back again, as we most certainly will.
The Guest Cabin
in Wondernut Farm, CaliforniaMy fiancee and I stayed here for two nights in late July and had a wonderful time! Matt and Carrie are mellow and hospitable folks who clearly love what they do and will go out of their way to welcome you to the community. We arrived on a night that a helper of the farm was celebrating her last night at Wondernut. Not every night is a party, so we're one of the lucky few; we met friends and neighbors of the farm, indulged in tasty pulled pork sandwiches, and tapped our toes to the live instrumental folk jam.
The cabin itself is rugged and charming. Even though it gets too hot to stay in during the summer days, it cools down to a perfect temperature at night, thanks to screen doors and windows. The bed faces a window with a view of the stars (and there are a LOT of stars on a clear night). There is also a private outdoor shower, which is by far the best camping shower I have ever used. The water is perfectly warm in the afternoon, and you may get a little bit of a brisk breeze to help cool you down. Not too far from the shower is the composting toilet deemed Pootopia, which is private and clean enough while still giving you an open view of the land and a chance to contemplate the universe.
We will definitely be back here when the weather cools down, and this time with our 3-year-old in tow, as the farm is very family-friendly.
The Flying Pig BnB
in Windsor Family Farm, CaliforniaMy family of 3 stayed here for two nights in late June. This place is fantastic! Kim is very hospitable and the guest cabin is cute and charming. There is a bed big enough for two people, plus a pull-out couch and a loft bed. The cabin recently had an air conditioner put in, which made the hot summer days much more bearable! The bathroom and shower are clean and are a short walk away from the cabin into the main house. Many animals live on this family farm, including goats, sheep, and chickens. I wasn't prepared for the "alarm clock" of roosters crowing at the crack of dawn, so if you're a light sleeper like myself, make sure you go to sleep early if you want a full night's rest! This place is extremely family-friendly; we had our 3-year-old toddler with us, who isn't very adventurous, but was eager to help Kim feed the chickens every morning. He loved it! Kim also whips up a delicious breakfast every morning. What more could you ask for? We'll be back!
