The camp was first built in 1905 by Dr. Goldsmith and family. The doctor and his family used the camp for summer vacations. During the winter the camp was rented out as winter hotel for loggers. Ice was harvested from the pond and stored in what is now one of the cabins.
When our family bought the place, the hotel was falling down and the buildings were in disrepair. Geoffrey, the family caretaker, has spent the last few years cleaning up the site. All that remains now of the hotel is the chimney while the ice house has become a cabin and has been improved and ready for visitors. We have a double futon, small wood stove and gas burners for a cozy indoor experience.
With 840 ft of pond frontage and 4.4 acres you can pitch a tent on the banks of the pond, up in the woods, or stay in the small cabin all are included in the cost of booking!
Swimming and boating in the pond is obligatory. Year round fishing has long been a tradition.
The spring fed pond is home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, crappy, and blue gills. There are a number of ponds and state lands nearby. Accommodations include two outhouses and two docks so no waiting. There is a canoe and rowboat available and life jackets. The camp is car accessible Mid-May to the end of September.
There are summer cottages across the pond but not much happening on our side. Cedar Lodge, the nearest bar/restaurant, is about 5 minutes away and very popular all year round. The closest gas station and convenience store is about 20 minutes in the village of Parishville.

Located in a hay meadow that is farmed 2 to 3 times a year to provide food for our animals. Next to the meadow is a mix of maple and pine trees. In the spring we use the maple trees for maple syrup production. Learn more about this land:This site is close to the road but easy to access. It is located where there was once an old stone barn, and all that is left is the stone foundation. Set around shrubbery trees, with two big maples at the parking spot to provide shade and coverage. You look out to an open hay meadow. That abuts our maple sugar stand with a mix of pine trees in the woods. You will be able to watch lots of deer frolic and play in the meadow and hear the sounds of the wildlife and birds around the woods. Available for use are 3 kayaks, a canoe and 2 paddle boats for your enjoyment along with life vests.
Guests have access to the entire house, use of the yard, propane grill, fire pit, 3 kayaks, a canoe, and a 2 paddle boats.
Guests are also able to enjoy walking the private road around the lake.
Bug Spray is provided but feel free to bring your own. I supply the brand OFF.
Please respect any neighbors, property, and obey all posted signs.
Guests will not have access to the shed.
Please be respectful of the camp as I am opening my getaway home to share its beauty with you. All I ask is you respect and treat it as your own.
Rural, secluded, wooded area in Amish country, roads are shared with horse and buggies please use caution. Then road to the camp is accessible by gravel/dirt private road. Blind curves and narrow road, again please use caution.
Camp is located not too far from exploring surrounding areas like Black Lake, the Thousand Islands, Canada, Sackets Harbor, Clayton, Alexandria Bay and Watertown, and the Adirondack Park. They all are within a day's travel.
The water is supplied by a spring fed well and is perfectly safe to drink, shower, and cook with.
The lake is private and unfortunately offers no public access for motorized boats.

📍Located in the towns of Russell and Clare, New York, escape to 56 beautiful private acres, surrounded by towering pine trees, half a mile of private riverfront, a pond, field and trails to explore!
🌲Tucked in the backwoods down a private dirt road, you will find four small cabins, one large main cabin and a bathhouse. You will have private access to half a mile of the Grasse River! On most days you can hear the sound of the river from camp! Bring your fly fishing or spinning reel rods, picnic or just relax on the shoreline! There is a huge field next to the cabins, a nearby pond and private trails to explore!
| THE CABINS |
Main Cabin: One larger cabin, consisting of a living room, full kitchen (dishwasher, stove, refrigerator, coffee maker, and toaster), laundry room with washer and dryer. Three bedrooms (2 king beds & 1 queen bed), two full bathrooms (one en-suite) with standup showers and one large bathtub. Two of the bedrooms have closets. The main cabin is not heated and space heaters will be provided during any colder months (Spring/Fall).
Mini Cabins: Four small log cabins spread out in a row, underneath a canopy of beautiful pine trees! The cabins are spaced far enough that there is enough privacy in-between each one. The cabins come equipped with power, WIFI, Roku TVs, refrigerators, microwaves, coffee makers, screened-in porches, AC units, ceiling fans and outdoor water hookups. They each comfortably sleep between 2-3 adults. Cabins are not heated. Space heaters are provided during colder months (Spring/Fall).

Across from the four smaller cabins is a bathhouse, featuring men's and women's sides. Each side has two bathroom stalls, one stand up shower and double sinks.
| THE GRASSE RIVER |
The Grasse River is a 73 mile-long river, mainly flowing northeast from the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains into the St. Lawrence Valley. Stocked with brown trout, native brook trout, smallmouth bass and rock bass.
Follow the trails from the campground to the river, where you can picnic, fish and relax!
*Swimming is at guests’ own risk. The river’s current depends on the season or how much rain the area has received. While exploring the banks of the river you will find faster and slower areas.*
| THE POND |
There is a private trail which leads to a small pond. The pond is perfect for exploring by canoe or kayak. There are a few channels which lead to other trails on the property.
*Several other properties have access to the pond. However, we have yet to see anyone else using the pond - it is very quiet! The pond is not meant for swimming*
| THE TRAILS |
There are multiple private trails leading to the river, into the woods and the pond. If you enjoy being in nature, these trails are truly lovely to walk/run/bike and enjoy! They are also extremely wide and well-groomed. We have added Adirondack chairs at certain end points.

A large field abuts the smaller cabins. Adirondack chairs have been placed around a large fire-pit in the field, perfect for hanging out with family and friends and enjoying some s’mores while stargazing!

We are not allowing the use of ATVs/Side-by-Sides or snowmobiles on the property (field, trails, etc.). There are many local trails nearby that you can easily ride to.
The property can comfortably sleep 16 adults, maximum occupancy allowed is 25 guests at any time on the premises.
Please confirm how many adults, children and pets will be staying in your initial reservation message.
Basic cookware (coffee maker, toaster, pots and pans and silverware) provided in the main house. All small cabins have coffee makers/mugs.
Four complimentary sets of golf clubs are available to use to play at the local courses. In addition, four tennis rackets are provided.
Exterior security cameras (filming and recording) are on the property, facing main entrance points, main cabin driveway and field.

Hubby and I do it everyday and it isn't so bad and 2 hrs from Syracuse. Echo's gas station is located 10 minutes from us and has gas, kerosene and propane. Great pizza and wings and odds and ends. Ogdensburg has Lowe's, Aldi's and Walmart. Thousand Islands is 20 minutes from us. Mini Golf on rte 6 10-15min. Langbrook Meadows Golf is 20 minutes. State Launch Ramp is 15 minutes away. Jacques State park has a beach. AMENITIES: THE CAMPER IS ON OUR PROPERTY 100YDS FROM BLACK LAKE. You'll have full access to the Lake. The camp was first built in 1905 by Dr. Goldsmith and family. The doctor and his family used the camp for summer vacations. During the winter the camp was rented out as winter hotel for loggers. Ice was harvested from the pond and stored in what is now one of the cabins.
When our family bought the place, the hotel was falling down and the buildings were in disrepair. Geoffrey, the family caretaker, has spent the last few years cleaning up the site. All that remains now of the hotel is the chimney while the ice house has become a cabin and has been improved and ready for visitors. We have a double futon, small wood stove and gas burners for a cozy indoor experience.
With 840 ft of pond frontage and 4.4 acres you can pitch a tent on the banks of the pond, up in the woods, or stay in the small cabin all are included in the cost of booking!
Swimming and boating in the pond is obligatory. Year round fishing has long been a tradition.
The spring fed pond is home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, crappy, and blue gills. There are a number of ponds and state lands nearby. Accommodations include two outhouses and two docks so no waiting. There is a canoe and rowboat available and life jackets. The camp is car accessible Mid-May to the end of September.
There are summer cottages across the pond but not much happening on our side. Cedar Lodge, the nearest bar/restaurant, is about 5 minutes away and very popular all year round. The closest gas station and convenience store is about 20 minutes in the village of Parishville.

The camp is cozy, yet well appointed with everything you will need for a comfortable stay. There is also a loft, that overlooks the living area with 5 beds, 2 singles, 2 doubles, and a queen. The camp is on a bank over looking the lake off a private road. Access to the lake is directly from the back right of the camp down a little path with staked in steps and a hand rail. Available for use are 3 kayaks, a canoe and 2 paddle boats for your enjoyment along with life vests.
Guests have access to the entire house, use of the yard, propane grill, fire pit, 3 kayaks, a canoe, and a 2 paddle boats.
Guests are also able to enjoy walking the private road around the lake.
Bug Spray is provided but feel free to bring your own. I supply the brand OFF.
Please respect any neighbors, property, and obey all posted signs.
Guests will not have access to the shed.
Please be respectful of the camp as I am opening my getaway home to share its beauty with you. All I ask is you respect and treat it as your own.
Rural, secluded, wooded area in Amish country, roads are shared with horse and buggies please use caution. Then road to the camp is accessible by gravel/dirt private road. Blind curves and narrow road, again please use caution.
Camp is located not too far from exploring surrounding areas like Black Lake, the Thousand Islands, Canada, Sackets Harbor, Clayton, Alexandria Bay and Watertown, and the Adirondack Park. They all are within a day's travel.
The water is supplied by a spring fed well and is perfectly safe to drink, shower, and cook with.
The lake is private and unfortunately offers no public access for motorized boats.

Wonderful spot and view! We were the only ones there which was great as the sites are very close together. They are not in the field anymore and lined up side by side. We’re not sure how we would have liked it if others were there. But the views were awesome. We do travel with our dog and there are a lot of dog walkers especially in the evening. Most are respectful and keep their dogs on leash but not everyone and we did have a dog run up to us while we were in our screen tent having dinner with our dog. We wish people would respect the rules but there’s always people who don’t. We were there mid September.

Woodland Grove Camping at Adirondack Adventure Base is such a gem. The property is calm, pristine, and full of charm with cute little trails to wander right on-site. It feels like a perfect mix of peaceful and fun.
Bob and Sheila are the kindest, most thoughtful hosts, and it was such a treat getting to spend time with them. Mim is just the coolest human being ever and made the stay even more special. We also got to try their maple syrup, which truly was the best we’ve ever had.
The spot is also in an ideal location, just a short drive to Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, and some of the most beautiful hiking and sightseeing in the Adirondacks.
We left already talking about when we’ll come back. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable Adirondack stay.

I was in the Potsdam area for several days and found this gem on hipcamp. The site is at the corner of a huge hayfield. No other people in sight, although some deer did wander across the far edge of the field one evening.
I went over and met the sheep and cows. That is definitely an add on to consider for this site.
Coffee at Park Bagels in Canton is super convenient, and if you are in a rush, there is a Tim Horton's nearby.

My husband, 2 dogs, and I had a fantastic time at this property on Sterling Pond!! It really is secluded and private, with only a couple waves to people passing on boat. My older dog who has never been able to be trusted off leash was even able to just drag her leash around because the space was so big and peaceful!!
I am usually distrustful of cabins that hang out somewhat unoccupied in the woods (bugs and small animals housing usually), even brought a tent for back up, but the cabin was SO clean and beautiful. Perfect for our small little family and we felt safe and comfortable hanging out and sleeping in there. You can tell Tedra and Geoff love and care for the property a lot, as well as the people staying there. When we arrived the windows of the cabin were opened so the breeze had a chance to cool the inside which was much appreciated!!
We printed driving directions to Catamount Mountain ahead of time which was a beautiful short hike.
My husband was in fishing paradise! Fishing right off the dock or in the rowboat available, they wouldn’t stop biting! They also had a book there that helped us identify what fish he was catching!
You are definitely off grid at this place which was a really nice break for my husband and I whose phones are usually going off nonstop. Can’t say enough nice things. If you’re looking for a fishing paradise, dog paradise, peace and quiet, and don’t mind a few bugs, this is the place to be. 10/10 recommend.

A nice four site HipCamp overlooking the St Lawrence River and Canada. It looks like they are working on adding utilities. We had a nice constant breeze from the west that kept us cool. It is a public park so you will see others and a lot of people took advantage of the open campsites for the river view. There were also a lot of dogs off lead so watch where you step. The cut pasture made for a nice hiking trail and the beach and playground areas looked nice. We didn’t need it, but we never found where to get potable water or where to discard your trash bag at the beach keepers cabin.

Dix cabin is great! I would definitely go back again. It’s very secluded (about a mile off-road), far away from other sites- so very private, and had everything necessary for one or two people. It’s a nice bonus that you have access to all the campground facilities (including boats for the lake). The camp caretaker was also very friendly and helpful.

Such a great find! This campsite was really awesome and you get so much for the price. We stayed in an RV site and had plenty of tree buffer between us and the next site. The bathrooms were nearby and this direct access to miles of beautiful hiking trail right at the site. We also had a lot of fun at their beach and rec center. We are definitely interested in coming back.

Massawepie holds a special place in our scouting family. Kids attended and worked there, adults attended as leaders. The hip camp portion is on the old scout camp known as Camp Mountaineer. The Rv sites are basic with 30amp power and water. The waterfront is basic but functional. There are shower houses and a recreation building with games and hang out area.
They have only been renting “Family Camp/Camp Mountianeer” for a few years. Every year we return for a few nights to drop off or pickup a scout at a camp Pioneer down the lake. Every year the facilities and offerings are better. The only issue we have is the dump station is poorly designed and difficult to dump at because of its location at the top of a small rise in the parking lot. It is impossible to have the trailer level at the dump station. The sewer inlet is also recessed in a box that makes it so you have to continuously lift the sewer hose to get the black and gray tanks flow over the edge of the box.

Coles Creek State Park is a fantastic outlet to bond with Mother Nature―and bring your best friend too. But just make sure that friend’s on a six-foot or shorter leash.
