The best camping near Cross Timbers State Park guide

Overview

About

If you’re craving a change in elevation, head to Cross Timbers State Park. You can explore the gently rolling hills of the Verdigris River Valley and surround yourself with a panoramic view of oak savannah. Activities include wildlife viewing (or participating), backpacking (we hear the Ancient Trees Trail is where it’s at), fishing in the river or on the reservoir, dancing to the songbirds, swimming, and boating. At night the campfires are visited by whiskey, beer, or marshmallows, and you’ll sleep peacefully in your tent or RV beneath an ocean of stars!

Notable campgrounds

  • Toronto Point: Boasting 80 primitive sites and full hookups, this campground is a favorite for its proximity to the lake and playground.
  • Mann's Cove: Offering 15 primitive camping spots, Mann's Cove is ideal for those seeking a more secluded outdoor experience.
  • Timber Ridge Campground: Recently upgraded with 50 Amp service, Timber Ridge offers both modern conveniences and access to scenic trails.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early, especially for weekend stays, as spots can fill up six months in advance.
  • Consider off-peak seasons for more availability and a quieter camping experience.
  • Keep an eye on the park's alerts for updates on campsite availability and conditions.
  • Explore nearby camping options if your preferred campground is fully booked.
