Just a few minutes (off-grid) west of Walsenburg, Colorado, with a fabulous 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains from our 3 acre lot right on La Deora Blvd./CR 504 (just off Hwy 160). Lathrop State Park (2 lakes), the Spanish Peaks Medical Center Hospital and the Walsenburg Golf Course are only 5 minutes from the lot. You can drive to the Great Sand Dunes Park in about an hour. Here on the ranch land you can hike, bike, 4-wheel, ride your horses, snowmobile and watch the deer and the antelope play. Hunter's are welcome, but not on the ranch land. There is hunting and fishing on State Trust Lands and Wildlife Areas here in Huerfano County.
You'll have clear views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, The Spanish Peaks, Silver Mountain (AKA Baldy), Sheep and Little Sheep Mountains and Greenhorn Mountain... Not to mention star filled skies...
At this time our septic and water are not completed so you'll want to stay with your self-contained RV. I am building a house now at the top of the hill but, no one lives there.

The lake features a number of species of fish including rainbow trout, walleye, catfish, blue gills, tiger muskies and the regrettably names crappie.
As you drive onto the property it gently slopes upwards and then flattens out for some nice camping spots and beautiful views of the surrounding area.
The property is in a very quiet and secluded area where you will not be bothered by noisy neighbors or busy roads.

This is as rugged as it gets. This high alpine location provides stunning views and endless chill time. This location is smack-dab in the middle of one of the largest elk herds in the world. There are plenty of deer, bear and the occasional moose.
This is steep country - bring your trekking poles! There is plenty to explore on the land, plus miles of hiking on Forbes road. You'll be roughly and hour away from the Great Sand Dunes National Park, 40 mins from Ft Garland, under 2 hours to Taos, NM, and Mountain Home Reservoir is just down the road - great fishing!

Cedar Hills Oliva Ranch is a 105-acre ranch with nine 11.6-acre campsites, each of them on beautiful and varying heights and terrain, with a secluded feel as each is located out of view from the other campsites. They are excellent for "primitive" camping year-round, and comprise wildlife (deer, elk, bear, hawks, antelope, etc.), grassy meadows, cedar-covered hills both gradual and steep, sandstone rock formations, seasonal white sand arroyos, and the occasional cattle wandering through. Because of its southern Colorado geography, snow typically does not accumulate deeper than 3"-4", even in the deepest winter months, so it makes camping just as easy and pleasant from November through March.
Each campsite has its own character and unique views of nature, so nine camping trips on each of our sites will feel different from the previous adventure, each presenting a distinctly intimate feel.
Additionally, a great benefit of Cedar Hills Oliva Ranch is while campers may enjoy deafening silence and see every star in the Milky Way Galaxy on a clear night, just 10 minutes from the ranch south on CR 69 lies a 24-hour gas station and three fast food restaurants. From there, another 5 minutes south, is the historic town of Walsenburg, where you may find expanded restaurant choices, a Safeway, and hardware store for other provisions - and more!
In case of a "medical mishap," Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center is approximately 18 minutes from any of our campsites, and open 24 hours.
Lastly, while not visible from the ranch, a new cell tower was erected approximately 2 miles northeast and is very reliable from anywhere on the ranch when having a clear view of the eastern horizon.

Our 5 acre parcel is within a 56,160 acre rural subdivision that the Forbes family sold back in the 1970’s. Our parcel is at 8,800 elevation.

Pitch your tent underneath Ponderosas or among century old Piñon pines. Great view of Snow capped Mount Blanca to the Northeast all at 8,750 above sea level. There’s a peaceful, quiet, private sense of being on the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
The San Luis Valley is also visible below and beyond to the West. Amazing night sky views, you'll feel like you are the only humans enjoying the setting. There are approximately 5000 acres of nearby greenbelt with forest, hills, valleys and alpine meadows for hiking and exploring up the road. I can send you coordinates and maps, or you can easily view on the "On X Offroad" GPS app.
The area is secluded and primitive as current status. You will see a double gated entry with posts. The newly made driveway leads down the hill to a cleared area where you can park your vehicle. We will provide GPS coordinates to your reserved campsite as well as the entry gate lock combination. We recommend using "On X Offroad" GPS app, it works better than Google Maps. There is ample distance between each campsite and plenty of trees to hang hammocks or suspended tree tents.

This is a lovely spot that we had all to our selves. We parked our trailer near the river and could listen to it all night long. This was a convenient location to both Curchara (2 miles) and La Veta (9 miles), plus all of the hiking trails and lakes in the surrounding national forest. I'm sure we will be coming back.

Beautiful and spacious site. It is close to the highway making access easy, especially if you have a large rig (we camped with a 28’ fifth wheel and 16’ trailer and had PLENTY of space). River runs next to site. Trees and brush surrounding, making it private with great views. Close to La Veta and Cuchara. Cows might greet you from the neighboring pasture!

While we didn’t get to the crescent with our 20-foot trailer, Nicholas guided us to a very nice, secluded spot that we thoroughly enjoyed. If you like camping in peaceful, private spots, this is it. Lots of birds during the day, a tarantula in the afternoon, and several singing coyotes every evening.

The Lone Spruce was hands-down one of the easiest Hipcamp sites we’ve ever found—great layout, spotless, and super welcoming. The host was amazing (I’m still not convinced she didn’t secretly train the wildlife to show up on cue just for our review).
Night one: my wife and I are sitting down to dinner when I glance out the camper window and—casual as can be—a bear strolls by on the other side of the river. Later that evening, while enjoying a gorgeous sunset, two giant bucks wandered through the site like they were auditioning for a nature documentary. Not to be outdone, the second night a parade of turkeys marched across the river as if they were in on the whole thing.
We left with full bellies, full camera rolls, and full hearts. The Lone Spruce isn’t just a campsite—it’s a front-row ticket to the wildlife channel, minus the commercials. We’ll definitely be back, and if you’re lucky, maybe the host will “release the animals” on schedule for you too. Highly recommended!

This spot is so beautiful! It is on the river, sleeping with the windows open listening to the water was incredibly relaxing. The owners were very friendly and responsive. We were there on the 4th of July and we had the place to ourselves. The highway of legends, on which the site is, is a journey everyone should take!

This is a beautiful spot! Really an amazing place to basecamp. Churaha is an amazing community. La Veta is also an oasis. I had no idea such an amazing place existed. We were right next to the Churaha river and had the whole place to our selves. Wow!!!

1 night at Ascension Acres
Celebrated my 40th birthday with a night in this super glam and very unique stay. Austin was super communicative on directions and hosted us so generously upon arrival. I loved the mix of camp/wilderness/nature with the glam of the dome/lighting/art. Super fun one!

What an incredible place to camp. The views of the mountains and listening to the birds with bugs was astounding. Nicholas’s land is so beautiful. We hiked around and explored so much and saw no less than five different cacti all blooming, along with a slew of other amazing plant life. Watching the storms come in from the west and build up over the mountains was so beautiful

15 ft pop-up camper

We were the very first people to camp here, and booked the day before, so we really caught the hosts off guard. Getting there was many miles of dirt roads. With our minivan and teardrop camper, we did fine, though I wouldn't want to even attempt it after heavy rain. When the way in got confusing, the hosts came out to get us and lead us the rest of the way to our site. They were very responsive despite the spotty cell service. They even helped us push our camper into position for the best view, and oh, what a view! We were at site #1, which was recently cleared with a skidsteer and quite lumpy, but close enough to level for us, and a short walk away from a port-a-potty. (Not a good tent camping site until and unless it gets flattened and tamped down.) It overlooks a miles-wide valley with a 180 view of nearly uninhabited land. Absolutely beautiful- one of the prettiest places I've ever camped. Great sunsets. Great stargazing. Very quiet, though the host did run their generator for a bit right at bedtime. Our 6yr old was enamored with the outdoor kitties, and the hosts were very friendly. While there are some kinks to be worked out, I wouldn't hesitate to camp here again someday.
