Big Horn Swimming Hole
Convenient Camping on the river
Convenient location to Thermopolis hot springs. Loved that there was a propane grill and a fire pit. The turf was great bc it was a bit muddy in the area but the turf kept everything dry and mostly mud free. I did specifically book here bc there was a bathroom available (portapotty) and it was near the hot springs. It was maybe a 5 minute drive or so to the Thermopolis hot springs which was a gorgeous location. I did hear a train passing through at one point of the night but other than that it was pretty quiet for being so close to conveniences. Bonus—I saw a few deer right on the property near the river!

Big Horn Swimming Hole
Full disclosure, I ended up not staying here after about 10 minutes of arriving and looking around. This place could be great, right on a beautiful river, but it looked nothing like the pristine photos from the listing. I managed to get down the steep hill in my van but getting back up was a little scary and I did skid a bit. The site looked trashed and like no one had been there or maintained it since the last campers. The fire pit had cans in it, there was a bottle and kids goggles under the table, tall weeds growing around the fire pit, and it looked like someone had thrown dirt and rocks all over the tables. You would think that knowing someone was going to be staying there you would check in on it. The owners had their truck there as they were taking people on a fishing trip, so it’s not really a private spot. As a woman staying alone it just made me worried that people come up from hanging out on the river and use the space or the toilet. The host was responsive and got back to me quickly and said he’s sorry it’s not why I expected and the weeds got away from them. I don’t care about weeds, I just expected it to look something like the listing and not trashed.

Don’t miss this gem!
Fantastic spot right on the river great for our kids and dogs. Picnic benches, portapotty and fire pit provided. Host family was awesome in getting us situated and we were able to rent tubes and fishing poles from them as well. Spot is worth it for the private river access alone, but we also got plenty of wildlife - lots of birds, otters, fish… we even saw deer swimming across the river. Quiet and peaceful at night. Would it definitely return and highly recommend stopping here. The road down is steep but we made it fine in our 2wd Solis (20ft). Site is level.
