This site was great. If you're on the fence based on the reviews, just go. The donkeys only make their calls once every hour, maybe longer throughout the day. Not a single one of us woke up at night because of it (and I am, truly and honestly, the world's lightest sleeper - I'm Autistic and my sensory inputs get overloaded real easy). You can sometimes hear car or motorcycle engines, but it sounds like they're in the valley of a mountain, not like they're on the road right next to you (or coming up the driveway). One time we heard a few ambulance/fire sirens for awhile (1/4 nights, for 5 min max). Overall, you get peace and quiet and feel isolated. With a teeny bit of bug spray and three citronella candles, we had long nights on the platform bug free (without a fire). While you don't absolutely need a truck/SUV/4wd to get up to the site parking, the road is precarious (not a relatively flat gravel road; there are a lot of sizable dips/troughs in the red clay dirt/gravel mix). We bottomed out a lot in a Honda Civic and a friend with a Honda Element even felt a bit nervous about it, because of its age/lagging. But, the views are breathtaking, its spacious, and well worth the price. My only tip: there is limited shade at the site during the day unless you are in the woods behind it; so, bring your own shade system if you want to stay where the views are and it's the summer (otherwise you'll be moving around following a small tree's shadow all day).
