Heart and Soil Homestead is located on 7 secluded acres in the foothills of Tobacco Row Mountain. We love living immersed in nature and have designed the space for others who also share this passion. The cabin is a short walk from the parking area in order to preserve the serenity and natural beauty that surrounds you. It is off grid and solar powered. Wildlife will grace you with its daily presence. The pond supports so much life! Some of our wild friends include deer, bear, possum, fox, coyote, skunks, raccoons, and you wouldn't believe how many frogs are really in the pond! At night by your campfire you will enjoy the sounds of grey tree frogs, crickets, screech and barred owls. There are no nearby lights that pollute the night sky allowing for the best star gazing while roasting your marshmallows by the fire. Nearby recreation opportunities abound! On the Blue Ridge Parkway only 13 minutes away you have road and mountain biking opportunities, hiking, scenic driving, and wildlife viewing. The Appalachian National Scenic Trail a 16 minute drive and the vast George Washington National Forest nearby offer endless hiking and nature exploration. The Upper James River Water Trail launch (16 minutes) provides tubing, paddle boarding, canoeing and kayaking fun. Rattle Snake and Terrapin ATV trails 12 minutes. Natural Bridge State Park 35 minutes. Downtown Lynchburg is 18 minutes when you need to recover those calories from being out on the river all day.Walnut Cabin sits in front of a small creek and is cradled by black walnuts and tulip poplars. The front of the cabin is open grassy land with a picnic table, fire pit, pond and pear trees. A kayak and paddle board are available for pond relaxation. The parking area is a short (1-2 minute) walk from the cabin in order to preserve the serenity and nature of your space. A cart is provided to help you transport your gear. A private outdoor shower and compost toilet are tucked into the trees near the cabin.

Quiet Space
The cabin was nice. Had a large soft bed, basic cooking supplies (small and large pot, pan, french press, set of 3 table settings, garlic salt, olive oil), drinkable water, a lovely solar-powered fridge/cooler. The outdoor shower was nice and warm. The grill worked great. The hosts were very friendly but gave us space and privacy. We didn't add on the massage but it was a nice option. The pond sounded like a cello section of the orchestra tuning their instruments. The metal roof was loud during the rain storm but that's to be expected. We never found a wagon to take our stuff up to the cabin from the car, but we could get everything up the hill in a few trips.

The cabin was very nice, with sheets and towels provided along with a space heater that heats up the room very quickly and a mini fridge/freezer. The bed was very spacious and the provided cookware was very helpful for cooking over the fire. Hosts were happy to provide anything we needed but gave us plenty of space to feel solitude. Wonderful stay overall.

Just want we wanted for a fall trip
We had a great time at the cabin! Christina made everything so easy (ex: a wagon to bring your stuff up, clear parking signs, etc.) the cabin had everything we felt like we needed too (stove, spatula, lighters for gas stove, cast iron pan, etc). We made delicious food with no problems. The land is beautiful and we had a clear sky full of starts at night (and from the outdoor shower!). The bed is huge and comfy too. We’d come back any chance we get!

What a cozy little cabin! The outdoor shower was an absolute charm, and the property overall was beautiful! Thank you so much for a lovely pit stop, would definitely stay there again the next time I’m passing through Virginia! :)

I loved my stay here! The description was accurate, communication was perfect, and the land was beautiful. Benjamin and Christina were wonderful hosts - welcoming, thorough, and available for anything I needed (including hiking recommendations). Highly recommend! I enjoyed taking a warm outdoor shower, having a fire outside the cabin, watching the frogs in the pond, and especially my massage from Christina! The bed was comfy and the cabin was cozy with everything I needed.
