Star Hosts are highly rated, responsive, and committed to providing incredible experiences.
Erik and Olivia were introduced to the little piece of family land that would become Fern Hollow Farm in June of 2014. What was an Alfalfa (medicago sativa) field lain fallow for seven years, would soon have bigger ambitions. After walking the meadow and feeling the magic of place, Olivia and Erik began the work of designing. Shortly thereafter, they set off across the US, staying at various permaculture oriented farms; with herbalists, seed savers and more, looking for inspiration and learning everything they could along the way. One seed saver, the awe-inspiring Sylvia Davatz of Solstice Seeds in Vermont, gifted them the two wild Kazak apple trees that are on either side of the entrance, and are featured in the logo as well.
Begun officially in 2015, Fern Hollow Farm is an ever-evolving, community-based entity inspired by three simple ethics:
Earth Care * People Care * Fair Share*** Please read ALL info before sending messages/booking requests. Most FAQ can be answered in the descriptions below ***
Pitch your tent or string a hammock in one of our serene camping areas around the meadow and forest. Our meadow has thousands of wildflowers, more than a hundred fruit trees, a young vineyard, and several gardens. There is also a beautiful wooden stage that is nice for lounging, music-making, yoga or tai chi practice. The meadow is surrounded by forest and has a nice walking trail to enjoy. Fern Hollow is a perfect place to slow down, soak up the starlit nights, pull out a book or instrument and enjoy your company by the fireside. Our farm serves as a hub for community events and sustainability education. We are always working on new projects, and are always happy to give a tour if the timing allows. You can also visit us at our website www.FernHollow.org and Fern Hollow Farm on Facebook and Instagram.

BOOKING WITH US: We have four campsites spread across our 10 acres. We have sites that can accommodate larger groups and small pull-in or pop up campers. When you send a booking request please tell us 1) How many campers are in your group (including pets) 2) What your camping set up is (tent, hammock, camper, car-camping, etc) 3) Any other info you feel we should know. Based on this info, we will verify that there is a site available that can accommodate your request and we will either approve or decline the request accordingly. The $40 base price covers two guests and site reservation, with a $10 fee per additional person (this includes children). We will respond to your booking request within 24 hours. Please allow 48 hours for all other correspondence related to your trip.
Please familiarize with our cancellation policy BEFORE sending a request. Once a request has been approved, you have three days prior to your trip date to make modifications (changing # of nights, # of people) or a cancellation in order to receive a refund. We do understand weather forecasts and travel plans change but this is the policy that feels fair to our farm team and business through our experiences of hosting. We often get more requests than we can accommodate and have to decline requests. Last minute cancellations negatively affect our team and we will not be accepting exceptions to our policy.
Check in time is 3pm. We try our best to be available for your arrival but with different groups arriving at different times and juggling our work responsibilities on and off site there are times that we may be delayed in greeting you. We provide self-check in instructions to your camping site and general information about accessing farm amenities prior to you arrival so that you have the needed information to begin getting settled and enjoying your visit. One of our farm team members will greet and further orient you to the site as soon as they are able. If you expect to arrive after 9pm please let us know at time of booking or as soon as you expect that you might be arriving late. Understand that we may not be able to provide an in-person orientation during those late hours (you will still receive self-check in instructions and needed information for accessing amenities) and we can move that in-person orientation to the following morning if needed. Check-out time is by 1pm. If we do not have additional groups checking in to your site that day, we are open to a later checkout - feel free to ask to confirm that.
CAMPSITE AMENITIES: Each site has a fire pit with a cooking grate. Each site either has a picnic table or a patio bistro set for seating and dining. We provide a 5 gallon water jug of NON-POTABLE water for hand washing, dishes, and so on, and one small bundle of firewood for each site. If you need additional firewood, there is some available for sale on site for $10/bundle.
FARM AMENITIES: Recycling bins are available but please try to minimize waste and pack out what you have packed in. Much appreciated! We have a Porta Kleen toilet that is serviced weekly (usually on Tuesday mornings) for campers. We have a beautiful solar shower house available for our guests - we ask that you use the provided biodegradable soap/shampoo and do not utilize any outside soaps/shampoo/other bathing products to help protect our natural gray water system. We have two different walking trails that guests are able to explore around the property and forest.
Please note that this is a working farm and also Erik and Olivia's home. There are chickens, geese, ducks, and guinea fowls who free roam and a rooster who crows in the morning ;) We also a Great Pyrenees farm dog. He lives with the sheep and barks at night to help protect our livestock. Mostly he (Otis) will be off in a far away pasture, but sometimes we need to rotationally graze them closer to camp sites. Your pets are more than welcome on the farm but we ask that they be leashed through the visit due to our free ranging birds and as a courtesy to other guests. We also ask that you clean up after your pets around the campsite and public areas around the meadow. You may occasionally hear farm equipment in the neighboring farms though a typical day at Fern Hollow is very quiet and peaceful. We look forward to sharing our home and community with you :)
WHAT TO PACK IN: - drinking water - trash bag/s - bug spray - ear plugs (just in case the rooster or dog are too much)
