A cold, wet night and a cold shower
I booked a stay at Angelica's site near Nevada City for a bit of "glamping" before heading to Burning Man. I was a single woman, traveling alone. I arrived in Nevada City around 9pm and it was very dark. I followed the directions on the Hipcamp app, but got lost almost immediately.
The instructions stated that there would be a fork in the road at the sign. But, almost immediately afterwards there was another fork. The host did not say whether to go right or left at that point. The “speed bumps” mentioned were almost invisible in the dark, as were the "hills". The instructions said that I should turn right into the camp, so I turned right. I went up a hill into a decrepit property that was obviously not the correct place.
When I finally found the correct site, there were no working lights, and it was pitch black. I opened up the tent to find the interior wet with rain, and bare mattresses laying on the wet ground. As I entered the wet tent, I had no choice but to keep my shoes on. This made the interior of the tent a wet, muddy mess. I fell into a fitful sleep on a wet, cold mattress.
The next morning I woke and planned for my last hot shower for 9 days. I stood there shivering waiting for the water in the shower to warm up. It never did, and remained freezing cold. I put my muddy clothes back on and left.
