Welcome to Homestead Hideaway, an off-grid home site adjacent to the Tahoe National Forest. A mile and a half down a dirt road and 20 minutes to downtown Nevada City. Easy access to the Yuba River, Scotts Flat Lake, world class mountain biking trails, and rock climbing off Bowman lake road. Homestead Hideaway is a six acres of secluded forest living. Its home to an array of wildlife including owls, foxes, bears, coyote and dear as well as an abundance of trees and flora. The property is also our home. We, along with our dogs, live in the green Quonset hut that you will drive past on your way in. We steward the land and live simply to reduce our impact on this wild place. At 3,600ft and amongst the trees, you can expect much milder temperatures than in Nevada City- making for a pleasant respite during the heat of summer. Little Dear Creek is a 5 minute walk and has bathtub size pools to soak in. The yurt was made locally by Living Intent Yurt Co and installed in 2021. Inside you will find two twin beds that can be combined to make a king, a giant pillow lounge, dining table, games, and some tableware for eating and drinking. Attached to the yurt is a large heptagonal deck perfect for lounging and yoga. On the deck there is a foot-pump sink for handwashing and dishes, a counter for cooking and a propane BBQ. There is no electricity or traditional running water and plumbing. Expect a rustic camping experience with the luxury of a new yurt to stay in. This means no electricity, no shower and a simple compost toilet in an outhouse. There will be a 55 gallon drum full of water for the foot-pump sink to wash your hands and dishes. Pack out your trash and leave food scraps in the compost.Come hideaway in a locally crafted 16' yurt erected in 2021. The yurt features two twin beds that can be combined to make a king, a XL lounge pillow, dining table and tableware for eating and drinking. Perch upon a heptagonal deck surrounded by pine, fir, cedar, oak, dogwood and madrone trees. The 200 square foot deck features a foot-pump sink, counter for cooking and a propane BBQ.  Stay inside the yurt or sleep outside and use the yurt as a living room to hang with friends and play games. There are two beds inside the yurt that double as lounges and plenty of flat space outside to pitch tents. Bring your own bedding OR bedding can be provided for $10 a bed with advance notice (sheets, blankets, pillow).  This property is off-grid and there is no electricity on-site. Cell service is very limited- some AT&T, no Verizon. Bathroom is a simple compost toilet outhouse and there is no shower. Little Deer Creek is a 5 minute walk downhill where you can take a cold plunge in a shallow creek! Scott's Flat Lake and the Yuba are approximately 30-40min drives. This property is 1.6 miles down a dirt road. Enjoy an adventurous drive in to arrive at a peaceful, private homestead. 4wd is not necessary, reasonable clearance (Prius is fine) and decent tread on tires is recommended. Mosquitoes are out at dawn and dusk, repellent or long loose layers are recommended for comfort.

We had a wonderful time at the yurt! It was in a peaceful secluded spot with thorough directions to the site that Lauren provided. There were plenty of dishware to use that made it convenient for our stay. The site was only a 25 min drive to the swimming holes by South Yuba River Bridge. Do be aware there were a lot of bugs at night and in the morning, we loaded up on bug spray. It was a great spot, and we’d go again in the future!

Gorgeous setting, yurt, and accommodations! The outdoor sink was out of water but it didn’t matter for us. We had everything we needed. Thank you!

Relaxing Romantic Weekend
My husband and I absolutely loved this place! Everything in the yurt was well maintained and clean. Even though it rained on us for half the time we were there, we made the best of it and hung out in the yurt for most of the morning. The drive there was a little rough on my Honda Accord since it had just rained but we made it through just fine! (Even though on the way back we accidentally took a wrong turn and ended up on a 4wd road 😅 Make sure to keep right at the fork in the road on the way back to the highway🫠) . We are already planning our next trip back!
