4WD absolutely necessary!
Overall we had a good time, because it was nice to get away from our busy city life and spend time outside with our dog.
Directions: There was no blue sign with a star and arrow like the instructions said, so follow your gps to get to the driveway. Otherwise, directions were very detailed and easy to follow to get to the parking spot.
Vehicle: We drove an AWD SUV and ended up getting stuck in the soft sand right at the designated parking area. We were trying to reverse into the spot, but stopped gaining traction as there isn’t much gravel at the spot.
I called the owner and she picked up right away. She said there were rugs to put under our tires to help gain traction, or a shovel, but unfortunately neither were to be found at the site. So we ended up having to call a tow truck to pull us out to the distance he recommended, which was about 40 yards away. FYI the tow driver said we were his 4th call for this exact situation, and got another call while he was with us! I wouldn’t recommend driving any 2WD or sedan.
After a couple speed bumps, we decided to make the most of things and had a great time playing games, grilling dinner and s’mores, and stargazing by the fire. This site is private and safe, with some street noise going on through the night. It wasn’t ideal for the kind of layout and conditions we expected, but is a great place just outside the city to relax in the outdoors.
