Canvas Tent in Private Woodland

1 site · Lodging5 acres · Willard, MO
Camp Fernweh feels like your own personal Scout Camp, perched uphill amidst a mix of hardwoods and junipers! In the spirit of Swedish "Lagom" we have created the "just right balance" for a camping adventure that has ease without taking away the adventure.
If the season’s right, you'll find pockets of wild black raspberries and gooseberries waiting to be discovered. Take to winding trails that span our 5 acres, inviting leisurely exploration or spirited adventures. We currently have one 13' canvas tent.
Despite being conveniently close to your car, our campsites exude a sense of privacy and seclusion. Our property is 5 acres so your walk won't be too far to your camp, but you may want to consider the uphill and rocky trails to your campsite when packing.

Being good to Mother Earth is at the heart of what we do. We prioritize sustainability with a newly constructed outhouse featuring a composting toilet, ensuring your comfort while respecting the environment.
This Autumn you'll find that we are working on glade restoration throughout our property by thinning out eastern red cedar and native plantings! Our inspiration for Camp Fernweh is the "sleep-away scout camps" we never got to attend. Workshops, campfire book chats and simple camping are what we do best! Check out our website to see if we have an event going on during your stay. Camp Fernweh, just 15 minutes north of Springfield off Hwy 13, offers easy access to outdoor adventures! Within 5-10 minutes, you'll find Ozark Greenways for cycling and walking, Dirt 66 mountain biking, Sac River mountain biking, and hiking spots in conservation areas. Don't miss the nearby Frisco Highline Trail in Willard, MO, along with convenient grocers. Plus, Fantastic Caverns and Crystal Cave are just minutes away for added exploration!

Hummingbird Inn and Campsites

7 sites · RVs, Tents20 acres · Reeds Spring, MO
The Hummingbird Inn is a beautiful retreat with many acres in its environs. There are two swimming and fishing ponds to choose sites from as well as off the beaten path places to set up camp. You'll only be about 15 minutes from downtown Branson but nestled up on a beautiful ozark mountain. The views are incredible here. We hope you will enjoy your stay. There is water available from several spigots powered by a large well. There are no bathrooms so you'll need to release in the woods and take your hygienic paper out with you. Looking for wwoofers as well. Please turn right before the inn and go down and park by the warehouse being careful not to block the golf cart trail. Camp anywhere first come first serve other than the trail itself. Please turn left before the inn and turn immediately left to the lower pond and park near or around the pond. Swim at your own risk!

Lakefront- 16 Miles from Branson!

2 sites · RVs, Tents8 acres · Forsyth, MO
Edgewater Beach Resort is a peaceful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. There are 2 RV sites at Edgewater that are located just a few feet from the water's edge. Lake Taneycomo is a cold- water lake that is famous for trout fishing. The resort has 3 docks that you can fish off of. You can also fish anywhere along the water's edge. Each RV site has water, sewer, and electric hookups, wifi, a private picnic table, and a private firepit/ grill. The sites are separated by a privacy fence for the utmost privacy. The resort has boat rentals, a fish cleaning station, an outdoor pool that is open from Memorial weekend through Labor Day weekend, a playground, and a laundry room. I also have boat slips available to rent for $20 a night. The resort is next to Empire Park which has lots of fishing spots, a playground, a disc golf course, and walking trails. The resort is 16 miles from The Branson Landing. You can get there by car or boat. Ask me about adding a boat slip to your reservation or about getting a discount for a long-term stay. I offer a 25% discount for stays of a month or more. Here is the link for boat rentals at the resort: https://www.boatsetter.com/users/wjplgnl *Lake Taneycomo will look different based on the seasons, weather, and the flow of water in the lake. It is common to see a large amount of duckweed in the lake, especially in the coves, during periods of high heat. It isn't attractive, but it is harmless. The maintenance crew at the resort constantly works to keep the coves looking as nice as possible, but it is a natural body of water, so there's only so much that can be done.*

Warriors o' Rainbow Horse Sanctuary

3 sites · RVs, Tents16 acres · Reeds, MO
The pasture is quite visible from Old Route 66, nearly adjoining it. Therefore people traveling “the Mother Road” find it convenient to stay with us. Grass is the best forage for horses, especially older ones, so we take care of our pastures, making for beautiful scenery for campers, too. Plus the entire back mile is bordered by old forest. And there is a swimming hole not a half mile away. This is a quiet and private site, bordered by a neighbor's old forest on back, other neighbor's cattle pasture on side, and you're in one of the pastures used by the Horse Sanctuary. (You are camping about 1/4 mile, more or less, from our house.) We regularly see coyote, wild turkeys, deer, fireflies, and the like.   We are just 1/2 mile off Old Route 66, therefore there are quirky little museums and great restaurants (for such a rural area!).   Plus we are only about an hour's drive from Branson. MO. which is a known tourist attraction.

Camping near Springfield guide

Overview

Missouri’s third-largest city offers a base camp for exploring the surrounding Ozarks region. Explore the up-and-coming downtown district, paddle down one of the many scenic rivers in the area, or head south to the tourist attractions and trio of lakes in the Branson region (less than an hour away). Campers will find pleasant RV parks, public campgrounds, and unique glamping accommodations both in town and amid the rolling Ozarks hills. Relaxation can be found in rural areas, while urban areas tempt with entertainment options.

Where to go

Downtown Springfield

Home to Bass Pro Shop’s first store—now a tourist attraction in its own right—and the award-winning Wonders of Wildlife museum, Springfield has entertainment for the whole family. The downtown area has been rejuvenated in recent years, offering an eclectic mix of local restaurants, coffee shops, bars, galleries, and cozy shops. Camping can be found at a number of RV parks on the edge of town, as well as at private campsites.

Stockton Lake

About an hour north of the city, Stockton Lake serves as a peaceful retreat, offering several camping options. The Corps of Engineers operates nine public campgrounds, many of which have water views, electric hookups, tent and RV sites, swim beaches, boat ramps, and more. The lake is a popular spot for fishing, boating, and swimming. It is also notable for its sailing opportunities. Stockton State Park has a campground with basic and electric sites for both tents and RVs. It also offers deluxe and rustic cabin rentals.

Branson

To the south of Springfield, Branson is an entertainment mecca, known for its family attractions, theme park, and outdoor recreation. Private RV parks abound, offering full hookups, swimming pools, onsite activities, and more. Scenic public campgrounds can be found along the lakes, including numerous Army Corps of Engineers parks on Table Rock Lake, which are the most accessible to Springfield. Table Rock State Park is another popular option. Unique glamping getaways can also be found, including cabins, treehouses, and luxurious tents.

When to go

Summers in southern Missouri can draw in heat and humidity from the South, making the weather hot and sticky. The best camping at this time of year is in shaded campgrounds or waterfront sites. Spring can be cool but pleasant temperatures and budding flowers make it a pleasant time of year to visit. Fall is, perhaps, the most scenic, as the Ozarks hills erupt in color. Winter can be mild—or, you might find freezing temperatures and a mix of frozen precipitation.
