Camp Escape

6 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents15 acres · Louisville, KY
15 acres with a barn and creek. Our property also boarders the Jefferson County Forestry and is close to Tom Wallace Park. This 5 acres is a corner lot next to railroad tracks so there are two roads on two sides. This is a very rural type area yet still in the city so you will hear and see a combination of city/country things. We are very close to Fort Knox and Knob Creek gun range. You will most likely encounter wildlife, hear gunfire, hear cars and the train go by, you will probably see and hear us and the neighbors on tractors and trucks. This is a working farm among other farming type residents. This is a space for someone to camp with their personal camping equipment. There is no water, no shower, no electric or anything else besides a fire pit. You need to bring your own supplies. We border the Jefferson County Forestry with an entrance about 1 mile away. We are about 30 mins away from downtown, but just 5 mins from a Kroger, Walmart, and a dozen different restaurants. We are also about 15 mins from Fort Knox. There is a shared porta potty onsite.

Escape the hustle and bustle and embrace the serenity of our picturesque 50-acre farm. Each of our three campsites offers a private and stunning natural setting. We believe in making nature accessible and enjoyable for all, so our sites are designed to be affordable and simple. Firewood and Essentials Forget the hassle and expense of firewood—we've got you covered. Each site comes with a supply of firewood. The wood we supply can sometimes be tough to get started. We recommend you bring fire starters or a small amount of kindling to get things started. Primitive but Beautiful Our campsites are rustic and primitive, perfect for those who love the great outdoors. You’ll experience nature in its purest form, with the beauty of the landscape and the presence of local wildlife, including insects. It’s all part of the charm of outdoor living. Trash Disposal We are committed to preserving the beauty of our land. Please pack out all trash to keep our sites clean and beautiful for the next guests. Trash can be disposed of in the dumpster near the greenhouses as you exit. Ticks and Safety As with any natural setting, ticks are present. We have been working at eradicating ticks at the camps sites by mowing and using nontoxic DE dust around sites. We recommend bringing insect repellent and checking for ticks regularly to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay. Farm Fresh Goods Don’t forget to pick up some of our delicious mushrooms and farm-fresh eggs on your way in. They’re a perfect addition to your campfire meals. (Limited Supply. Reach out before your stay.) Booking Information To keep things simple and secure, all bookings must be made through the Hipcamp app. We do not accept cash or in-person reservations. The best camping near My Old Kentucky Home guide

Overview

About

“The sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home,” Stephen Foster wrote in his legendary song about this historic house, where now you can take a step back in time and relive those olden days! My Old Kentucky Home State Park, located in the heart of Bardstown, is a cool and inspiring place. After walking the halls of the Federal Hill Mansion, roaming the beautiful grounds and gardens, and chatting with the guides all done up in period clothing, we think you’ll be inspired too. Reserve a seat to see Kentucky’s longest-running outdoor musical, featuring Stephen Foster’s songs; golf on true Kentucky bluegrass; peruse the local downtown and grab a pint; or just enjoy camping out in the commonwealth of shady, green goodness. This is a good ol’ house with heirlooms, period pieces, old American furniture, and that stately look, which means you’ll have a fun and unique experience!

When to go

The ideal time to visit My Old Kentucky Home is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the gardens are in full bloom or awash with autumnal colors. Summer offers a full schedule of events, though the heat can be intense. Winters are quieter, with fewer programs and a peaceful atmosphere, but some areas may be less accessible.
