Me and my girlfriend loved staying at the Dark hollows it’s at the top of the hill tucked away in a corner site which give lil bit more privacy than other sites that are offered. Campsite had everything you ever need to glamp… from running water , skillets etc. to shower and bathroom. Fantastic experience overall

If you're looking for some privacy in a beautiful mountain setting, time around a campfire with friends, access to hikes along the AT - this is your spot. If you're looking to hit the wine trail or some of the breweries in the valley - it's a bit far from all those. But the site was perfect for our plans, and we'd certainly recommend it.

The host was very kind and welcoming. The host's direction to the facilities was very clear. You will enjoy the atmosphere of the mountains and river around you and the bathroom was very clean. You get zero Internet signal but have high speed wifi. This is a very recommended site for everyone for easy accessibility to many natural attractions of Virginia.

Thunder BRidge was a wonderful place to camp! It was beautiful, everything was well-kept, Adam was super prompt, and Natural Bridge + Devil's Marbleyard were just a short drive away. We loved our site. It would be even prettier in the summer! Definitely book with Thunder BRidge!

I loved tent camping on Nathan’s land! The directions to the campsite were easy to follow, and having a hot shower and a bathroom was really convenient after a long day of hiking. I felt safe staying here as a solo female traveler, and I enjoyed the beautiful sunset through the trees every night.

Nathan was super nice and let us switch sites to better accommodate our group upon our arrival! The picnic table and fire set up around site 1 were perfect. Be prepared for various animal noises sometimes at night and in the morning.

We stayed 2 nights in early March and loved it! As noted in the description, the site acted as a boys camp and had other uses in the past. Glimpses of this past abound on the property - the numerous small buildings, the obstacle/gymnastics course equipment, and the athletic field to name just a few. The rv sites are on the edge of the large field part of the property, and each has a picnic table and fire pit. In the trails in the woods are the cabins and tent sites. There is an artist in residence. The trails through the woods are great to get a nice mile walk with your dog. Adam is working through updating the buildings, and 4 or 5 are painted bright hews of green, yellow, blue, etc, creating a welcoming environment and transformation from their past. There is a fun white cow statue at the entrance, welcoming you to the property. It’s easy access to Lexington, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and many local hikes. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, and would happily return if in the area. Adam was helpful, very responsive and easy to communicate with. He was concerned he wouldn’t be there when we arrived, and sent a video driving through the property and showing exactly where the site was. He was there when we got there, but the video was appreciated and helpful.

My 2nd stay at Mane Gait Equestrian Center/ site#1. Was able to get off roads while 2days of bad weather passed thru.. Not far from Natural Bridge S.P.. Stayed here month prior when heading to FL. Close to main roads. No road noise, full AT& T signal. Thank you so much Sydney! I would definitely stay here again.

Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.

Learn more about this land: When you arrive you will drive up to your campground destination which is 16 acres of Loblolly Pine trees. There is a 1 1/2 acre pond stocked with Catfish, Bass, Crappies, Brim and Shell Cracker. Also there are two smaller ponds with minnows and one is home to Tucker the Turtle 🐢 . We have several trails on the property to walk as well. You are welcome to 🐠 fish for dinner but we ask that you notify your host if you want to keep some fish. Otherwise please practice catch and release policy. Each site will have a fire ring available. We are AUTISM Friendly 💙,so if you have a camper that needs a little more encouragement about camping or other accommodations please let your host know. Camp Cove Creek is located in rural Faber, Virginia which is 20 minutes from Charlottesville in beautiful Nelson County. In addition to the many natural features like the Blue Ridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail and the James River, Nelson is home to Wintergreen Resort and Oakridge Estate and hosts events such as the Lok'n Festival, Camp Jeep, and Overland Expo. Camp Cove Creek was originally part of the my grandparent's Waveland Farm. Originally situated on over 600 acres, the brick antebellum house across the hill was used as a hospital in the Civil War. The camp used to be a horse and cattle farm as well as a flea market and airport with grass airstrip when my Mom owned the land. Our vegetable garden was by the swimming hole. The airstrip is the future home of Faber Christmas tree farm. Camp Cove Creek is easily accessible via Rt 29 and Rt 6 east (Irish Road). Our property sits at the confluence of Bear and Cove Creeks where wading is permitted and encouraged (with water shoes). We are continually trying to improve the site by removing old barbed wire, poison ivy, and invasive plant species in addition to planting Christmas Trees, raising 3 kids, and working 2 full time jobs so please forgive our works in progress. Enter at the site we still call the Flea Market (1980's use of the hilltop). This is the top of our 12 acre camping playground. 4wd vehicles as well as human and electric powered toys are welcomed to drive "the dirt loop" and camp anywhere along it or the creeks bordering it. The loop is bordered by Irish Road to the south and creek bottoms to the west and north. We encourage walking the route first as it has intentionally been left primitive to provide more of an authentic and fun getaway adventure. Overlanding does tend to scratch paint no matter how tough the ceramic coating is so enter at your own risk! Nearby in the soapstone mining town of Schuyler you can visit the home place of Earl Hamner, best known for his creation of The Waltons TV show. While you're there check out the Waltons Mountain Museum, which happens to be my old elementary school and my parent's former high school. The dam bridge and quarry gardens are pretty cool too!
