4 nights at Drifter Ridge

We had such a wonderful stay at Drifter Ridge. The hosts, Abbey and Keith were so warm, welcoming and responsive to all of our questions! This little slice of heaven is a relaxing and peaceful place to stay, but we also enjoyed so many nearby attractions including very scenic drives to endless hiking in Grayson Highlands State Park, downtown Lansing, NC (including Molly Chompers and fly fishing on Big Horse Creek), West Jefferson, NC and Damascus, VA. We were touched by all of the thoughtful amenities at camp, including visiting with their happy little farm animals and the gift of farm fresh eggs! We definitely hope to be back!

3 nights at Redeemers Ridge Retreat

Slice of heaven! Quiet and beautiful views. Owners were caring and friendly. The sites were so well thought out. I appreciated all the detail that went into making this property a unique and beautiful place to stay. Just look around and you can see how much time and money was spent. The site itself is level, trash can available, firewood available, clean beautiful rock to park on, beautiful wood chairs on red stone, open property for the dog to run, enchanting pine tree forest and full hookup. Be prepared for a decent amount of wind because you are on a mountain.

Beautiful, quiet space. We loved the area and also loved that a bathroom with a shower was on site. Do note that the water was not hot for the shower, though!

Site 1 and 2 are very close, if both were booked you may have a privacy issue. However the view is great and the sites are reasonably priced, it would be very easy to book both and bring the whole family. The walk to the sites is uphill so be ready to get some exercise.

The site was very nice and quiet. Very nice view and enjoyed the grassy area. It is definitely on a slope but was able to set up the tent just fine.

We had such a lovely time at our spot on the property. Beautiful views of the mountains and it was perfect for proximity to family. Heidi and Michael were great hosts! We hope to return when visiting family again.

8 nights at Dark Ridge Hide Out (Adults Only)

We loved camping here in our 20' travel trailer. Curtis is a fantastic host and we enjoyed talking to him. Every morning we hiked up to the top of the field and played ball with our dog until he was exhausted. Sitting by the creek and listening to the peaceful water was a great way to pass the time. What started out as a short stay turned into an eleven night stay. We are sad to leave this peaceful place and we will return next year for a longer stary. Thanks Curtis we enjoyed our time here.

Weekend Trip to Loafers Joy Meadow

Beautiful views from the rv site. We stayed here for one night to enjoy a snowstorm (by NC standards) and enjoyed it enough to book a second night. Michael was easy to deal with. The rv site is close to the road, but this toad has no traffic other than a couple of residents passing by slowly on this dead end country road

Great location and very friendly owner. Campground very clean and well kept. Had a great pull through FHU site and it was very level. Water pressure was great and all three hookups were right together.

Would recommend. Owners are terrific. The land itself is well done and their thoughtfulness and responsiveness is exceptional. They have a great attention to detail. The campsite was peaceful while we were there. Site 4 would currently be the most private. FYI-- Surrounding areas still very much recovering from the hurricane.

Weekend Trip to Dark Ridge Hide Out (Adults Only)

First and fore most let me say that when I booked this trip I did not think about what the area had been through several weeks prior with hurricane Helene. We pulled a 12' cargo trailer that we actually slept in and our first day up there was the day after the first snow. So it was a little slick in places. But like everyone has mentioned, Curtis was an amazing host. Making sure we had what we needed and recommendations on how to get around after the after math of the storm. We went looking for an adventure and we found one. The grounds were quiet except for us 😉, and the sites were level despite being on an uphill meadow and we'll taken care of. The nearby falls are a must and I can on imagine what we could of seen if some of the roads weren't blocked at the time to do construction, which crews are working diligently on to restore. The hike down to the nearby falls was steep and rocky but we'll worth the trip. I would recommend this place to others anytime. Plenty of all types of nature to be seen.

"Adults only" doesn't mean anything other than just "no children", so as to preserve the natural peace and quiet, and assurance that there won't be loud and unruly children on the property. Inquiries and booking requests received after 9: pm may not be answered until the next morning. Dark Ridge Hide Out, is a 20 acre parcel in the Blue Ridge Mountain's on the back side of the Beech Mt Ski Resort in a secluded quiet and safe community with less than a dozen homes in a one mile radius. Away from light and sound pollution. Except for an occasional passing vehicle "and often none at all from 10pm to 6am" all you will hear is the sound of the creek which runs through the lower section by the RV sites, cricket's and frogs at the nearby fish pond and only the light from the moon and star's in the clear mountain sky and fire flies. It is my home place with a tobacco barn and a big combination cattle/tobacco barn built almost entirely just by my Mom and Dad in early 1940"s. My parents and grand parents lived off of the land here and raised cash crops like cabbage, corn and tobacco, we also raised sugar cane and made molasses, we had free range chickens, as many as 50 honey bee hives and over 50 head of cattle, two or three hog's and of course a horse. There was four main fields; two for cow pasture, one meadow to grow hay "now Christmas trees" and the main one on my part where all crops were grown is where the camp sites are. I grew up helping with the crops and other farm chores, one was to go to the pasture and bring the milk cows in and do the milking every day before and after school, feed the hogs and chickens, gather the egg's, let the chickens out in the morning and close the chicken house in the evening to protect them from critters like opossums, raccoons and wildcats. This is where I grew up, my dad grew up and, near where my mother and both of my grandparents grew up. My house was built in 1905 the same year my dad was born. The campsites are on my 20 acre section section of the original 82 acres with the house and barns, the remainder went to my brother but now is out of the family. The section of Elk River with the Compression Falls "45 ft high" and Twisting Falls which is part of Pisgah National Forest is less than two miles from here, and an old logging road going around the mountain above the river for about three miles to another Falls "Elk River Falls, 65 ft high" is a great place to hike or mountain bike. You will be free to explore and hike any part of my property except the house and out building's. The pond's are full of Trout and Blue Gill fish that are like pet's they love little pieces of bread. You can feed the fish but no fishing.

10/9/2024 NOTICE: We had some damage to our road due to Hurricane Helene that made it impassable. It has since been repaired and is opened to traffic. There are still some remaining rough areas, but the road is easily passable by passenger vehicles and RV's up to 28ft. Our site was once part of a much larger farm growing tobacco and raising cattle and other farm animals. The existing tobacco barn was built in the early 1960's. The concrete pad used for RV camping was used to store silage for the cows. The non-potable water source is a mountain spring that has been used on the farm since the 1930's. While many tobacco barns in the area have been torn down for their rusted tin roofing and rustic siding, we have worked to restore the barn and preserve its history.

Tri Mountain View Campground is located in the Northeast corner of Tennessee in the town of Shady Valley. With an elevation of 2,800 feet, Shady Valley is the second highest town in Tennessee. It is just 26 miles from the Bristol Raceway and the Bristol Caverns. It is just a 15 minute drive to Backbone rock and a short drive to the Appalachian Trail. The property was a Dairy Farm and went out of business in the late 90’s and since then there has been over 3,000 trees planted. Some of these trees include the rare Butternut and Hazelnut, but mostly White Pine, Walnut and Oaks. The property has approximately 1,000 feet of fishing on Beaver dam creek, so we recommend bringing waders. All of which means our summers are cooler (average of 83 in August) with low humidity, and our winters are milder. So this is a great place to escape the hot humid Virginia summers! We experience four true seasons, and the colors in the fall season are some of prettiest on the East Coast and perfect for leaf peeping! We have deer, wild turkey, bear, chipmunks, raccoons, wild rabbits, Whip-poor-wills, and opossums on the property. Plus, the fireflies at night can be beautiful! Plus, we've yet to see a mosquito! You will be the only camper on the property, my RV is on site and is used as guest quarters when I have company, but this is rare. There is no cell phone coverage and limited strength wifi, so unplug and relax! The Camping Site is part of our mountainside property located in Long Hollow and sits on the edge of 7 acres of pasture, which leads to 7 acres of White Pine Forest you are welcome to use for walking, wildlife viewing, dog walking, etc.. It is conveniently located less than 2/10s a mile from Rt. 16, and 5 miles from I-81. Our neighbors are quiet but you may hear their donkey braying or chickens clucking. We ask that you do not disturb the neighbors or interact in any way with their animals. There is a Firepit and Picnic Table for your use. I try to keep a supply of firewood on hand which you are welcome to use, but if I run out you may have to get some wood elsewhere. You can scavenge fallen wood to burn.....
