42mi from St Hedwig · 1 siteWelcome to your own private holler—where magic hangs from the trees and time slows to a whisper.
Robin’s Nest is a real treehouse—built atop 7 oaks with no tape measure, no level, and no blueprints—just imagination, old wood, and 100-year-old treasures tucked into every corner. It’s not a house on stilts next to trees. It’s in the trees. And when you’re here, you’re not on our time. You’re on treehouse time.
This isn’t polished, modern luxury. It’s barefoot luxury. A dreamy, playful escape with simple comforts: Swing in the queen daybed, shower in the open-air master bath up in the trees with you, soak in the cowboy hot tub. Lounge in the cargo net and watch the treetops sway in the breeze. Sit by the fire. Wander the trails. At night, let the frogs sing and the stars take over.
Push open the double doors. Slide the futon against the handrail under the roof cover. Turn off the lights and leave only the fairy lights glowing. Across the pond, a spotlight shines on a little feeder, and if you’ve been quiet, you’ll see deer, raccoons, and other critters play in the dark—like a living storybook, better than TV. Leave the doors open. Let the cool AC wash over you. This moment is yours.
This holler is completely yours. No shared spaces. No interruptions. Just you and the wild around you.
This land is a working wildlife sanctuary, cared for with 50 years of hands-on learning. Please don’t bring poisons—they hurt the good critters too. The yellow-and-black mud daubers? Harmless to humans, deadly to harmful spiders. The big harmless, banana spiders keep flies and mosquitos away. It's nature in balance.
If the pond’s low, bring a float or take our kayaks ten minutes away to a secret bend in the San Marcos River. We’ll share the pin.
Your close to town but, fully immersed in nature, so it's not ideal for small kids to wander alone. Ladders, beds, and trails, Not built to code. Not meant for crowds. Best for adults who can move comfortably and safely through a natural setting.
One night is an escape.
Two or more is where it starts to work on you.
This is your holler now.
## The Other Side of Paradise — What to Know Before You Book
**First, please watch the videos!**
We want you to know exactly what you're getting into before you arrive! Search YouTube for **“Literally Built Into THE TREES! | Texas Tree House Stay” by CandE Adventures**, or visit our YouTube channel **@Greatescapesvr**.
The videos will give you a much better feel for this one-of-a-kind adventure than photographs alone.
### Now, let's talk about the not-so-perfect stuff!
**The Bathroom:** We're rustic, and we mean it! Our composting toilet is essentially a bucket, a liner bag, and sawdust. It's simple, functional, and definitely not for everyone. The bathroom has curtains for privacy, but no solid door. If you need a conventional bathroom with complete privacy, this may not be your adventure.
**The Bugs and Wildlife:** This is a working wildlife sanctuary, not a sealed hotel room! We work hard to keep insects under control, but occasionally they'll find their way inside, especially after changes in weather or between guest stays. You'll also encounter wildlife around the property, particularly near the ponds.
You may see our yellow-and-black mud dauber wasps. Although they look intimidating, they're generally nonaggressive and help control spiders. We manage more troublesome wasps and bees around guest areas, but this is still a natural environment.
**The Ponds and Texas Droughts:** Texas has a mind of its own when it comes to rain! During droughts, our ponds can get very low or dry up completely. We have a well to help maintain water levels, but when that becomes impractical, we turn it off and let nature take its course. Please don't book expecting full ponds year-round.
**But here's the good news!** There are wonderful places nearby to swim, fish, and cool off.
- **Lockhart State Park:** Just a few minutes away, with fishing, hiking, and a seasonal swimming pool.
- **Palmetto State Park:** Near Luling, with beautiful scenery, fishing, trails, and opportunities to enjoy the San Marcos River.
- **Nearby river access:** There are also swimming and floating spots in the surrounding area, often within a short drive.
And here's a bonus: You can fish from the shore or pier in Texas state parks without a fishing license, subject to park rules.
You can also cool off right here in our rustic cattle-trough pool!
**The Highway:** We're conveniently located near a highway, and yes, sometimes you'll hear traffic. Inside the treehouse it's generally less noticeable, but if you're sleeping outside in the hanging swing bed, traffic can be louder, occasionally until midnight. We provide soft earplugs for light sleepers.
**The Ladders and Sleeping Arrangements:** This is a genuine treehouse, complete with ladders, elevated sleeping areas, swings, and unconventional construction. Some features do not meet conventional residential building codes. Adults should be physically comfortable climbing ladders, and parents should carefully consider whether this environment is appropriate for their children.
The indoor full-size futon comfortably sleeps two. The hanging queen swing bed provides additional sleeping space, and we can bring you a few hammocks upon request.
**The Trails and Grounds:** This is nature, not a landscaped resort! You'll find uneven ground, wildlife, trails, ponds, and all the little surprises that come with the outdoors. We recommend sturdy shoes, good judgment around the water, and close supervision of children.
### So why do people love it?
Because it's different! It's a little quirky, a little adventurous, and wonderfully imperfect. You can sit beneath the trees, listen to the wildlife, swing in the breeze, explore the property, or simply escape the ordinary.
We're not trying to offer a luxury hotel. We're offering an authentic treehouse adventure on a working wildlife sanctuary.
**Come for the adventure, not the perfection!**
And if that sounds like your kind of getaway, we'd love to have you.
