Hilleetla

Greetings from Hilleetla! This beautiful property with big rolling hills, big trees, spring water, creeks and lakes lies deep within the Big Thicket, behind the Pine Curtain. Originally a dairy farm, with the old barn and milk bottles intact, then a miniature pony farm with a miniature stable to match, and later a vacation home for some quasi-urbanites. 

Now our home, our muse, and our place of refuge.

A place to share with friends and family and those seeking an authentic experience, here, on the ground. A working farm, a plant nursery, a garden, our forest farm, and our center for creativity, love, life and design. As a landscape architect (Alissa), designer and horticulturalist (David), we've found our match here, at what we now call Hilleetla.

The backwoods of the forest!

Our property is located in the middle of the Davy Crockett National Forest,  and is a part of one of the original homestead properties of the timber boom of the early 1900's. Designated as a "century farm" the original family goes back over 100 years. Beautiful scenery and all the natural forest you can handle!

Located in Houston County, our campground is just 8 miles from Ratcliff Lake Recreation Area, and the boat ramp at Anderson crossing on the Neches river. Big Slough Wilderness Area is just 2 miles by road, and the 4c hiking trail has 2 trailheads within 2 miles of the camps. Our camp is located smack dab in the middle of the Davy Crockett National Forest,  and is perfect for viewing wildlife, nature hikes, biking, horseback riding, and just about any other outdoors activities. Only primitive camping is available at this time.

It ain’t pretty farm field

Learn more about this land:Property is fairly level, but is a field on a slight hill. there are several spots to choose from. Can be isolated or close to buildings.  If tent camping can be outside the fence in trees.  Fires are limited depending upon location and campers must stay away from planted rows of vegetables. 30 amp rv plug and water are available for extra fee. Dry camping is quoted the base cost.  Property is 2.5 miles down a dirt road, be prepared!

The Rock Pit

Learn more about this land:The Rock Pit is a 5 acre swimming hole located in Trinity County that has been there over 50 years. Long ago they had dug out an area on a hill for rock on the dirt roads, and hit and underground water table. There are no fish in the Rock Pit, as the pH is 4.5, so no fish will live in it. I recall swimming there as a small boy, and wanted to share my memories with others. Depth ranges all over, but the deep end is around 15 feet. I have 2 kayaks currently, but bring yours if you have them, along with your vests.There is fishing in Lake Livingston, my place is north of it. There is access to Lake Livingston via White Rock Creek. A public boat ramp in on Highway 94, just outside Trinity. Or you can go back towards Trinity, to highway 357 and go to a ramp closer to the big lake.Tall pine tress, a few Oaks, and maple trees surround the place. Bring your mosquito repellant, as you are in the country!The place is raw right now, but I am planning improvements such as a few A frame cabins, a showering area and so on. So many things to do!

We are the new owners of the property formerly known as Durango's Canyon aka "The Crater". Under this new ownership and management, Yellow Rose Canyon aims to build a positive community based culture through music, art, food, and family friendly outdoor events. We feature RV camping, tent camping, cabins, and a stage to be utilized for everything from Music Festivals to Movie Night under the Stars.
