Located in the town of Silver Gate, just outside the Northeast entrance to Yellowstone National Park, sits the historic Range Rider Lodge.
Construction began on the Range Rider in 1937 after the magnificent Beartooth Highway was completed. Whole logs were brought in from the surrounding forests and oil paintings depicting beautiful mountain scenes were commissioned to line the banisters of the second floor.
The Range Rider was originally constructed to be an “indoor playground” for all of the tourists coming over the Beartooth Highway. Since its opening, the Range Rider, originally called the Gorham Chalet, has seen many wild times and brought a lot of entertainment to a small mountain community. Ernest Hemingway even used to frequent the bar and write.
The original logs still stand and the Range Rider still possesses all of the magic that it has had since the day it opened. Over the years not much has changed, just enough so that people can continue to enjoy the Range Rider as so many have been able to in the past.
Rooms in the Range Rider are available to be rented for nightly rentals. Rooms with one double bed start at $99.00/night and rooms with two double beds start at $184.00/night (these prices do not include tax). There are 5 communal restrooms; among them are 2 men’s showers and two women’s showers and two men’s restrooms and 2 women’s restrooms.

RV SITE: The RV site is located in an acre fenced area that houses a shop and barn and sits next to a fence with a Ranch House on another fenced acre that serves as a short-term rental (airbnb/vrbo).
Enjoy a short hike to access Bridger Creek which runs through the property or hike to the top of the property "on top of the world" and enjoy spectacular views of the Crazy Mountains, Beartooth Mountains and the Yellowstone River. Just minutes from BLM, national forest and Yellowstone River fishing access, 1.5 hours from the North entrance of Yellowstone National Park and only 15 minutes from the quaint town of Big Timber, this property has everything families, hikers, hunters, anglers, cattlemen and rodeo goers could want. This property really does have it all. The property can accommodate horse and stock trailers too, for an additional fee. Cattle and horses can graze, roam and be worked in the round pen with reservations, depending on weather, and an additional fee. Hipcamp now requires that either the camper or the host has a toilet. Our RV sites have water and electricity but no sewage. If you choose to stay on our property, you must have your own toilet facility.

This was a wonderful place to camp! We stayed 3 nights and added a 4th. Great views, very quiet, the dogs had room to run off-leash and play ball, and the greeters as we pulled in were a beautiful herd of about 20 Longhorns! We met Megan and her daughter - really nice folks. The road in is gravel but extremely well maintained. We were in a 30ft. pull trailer. Thanks so much to Ryan and Megan!! Great stay!!!

The Ellison ranch is the epitome of hipcamping! Big ranch, lots of space and privacy. The dogs so enjoyed it!! They also loved when I would get in the river with them for fun :)

I've always enjoyed ranchers because I come from ranchers. Good people!
The sights around the area are spectacular not to mention the wildlife!! Do not miss Natural Bridge Falls. It isn't far away at all. The drive alone is spectacular!
I rode my bike for 13 miles from the ranch down a forest road and it was breath taking. I really enjoyed my time in Big Timber as well. I love small towns where people are polite, helpful and friendly.
If you have an rv, Big Timber Tire has an rv dump even after hours.

We loved camping on Judy’s land. We had a great spot for our van at the end of her field next to the river and amongst the trees. The location is right next to the road, so there is a fair amount of road noise, but we still felt like we enjoyed a good amount of privacy. There is a porta potty and water available near by. It was a great location with close proximity to Tippet Rise (30 mins away). Judy was lovely and easy to communicate with. We felt lucky to have found such a beautiful spot and would definitely camp there again.

Sandy and Jerry were excellent hosts and their property is beautiful! The setting along the river is very peaceful. Water on one side and mountains all around. They were very accommodating and had plenty of local suggestions. We were greeted upon our arrival and offered a hand with anything we needed. Very flexible with where we could park in the yard. Even offered use of their bathroom if we needed to. This was our first time using hipcamp and I would recommend it to anyone. Thanks Sandy and Jerry for all of your wonderful hospitality!!

The campsite is located in bare prairie with some nice views of the countryside. We went for the longhorn feeding and this did not disappoint - it was a great experience. During our weekend stay we were graced by a full moon, which made a beautiful Montana sky even more stunning.
